I love this song and I taught it to my little nieces :) I'm so grateful that Vashti's music came out of the 60s into the 21st century.

I was flipping radio stations and I found this song (never heard it before) so I blasted it on full volume to see what my dad would do. He stared at me like I was insane and was like "what the heck are you listening to!?!?!?" and I said "I have no idea but it's cute!" so then I went home to look it up on youtube and...well here I am.

Jog along Bess, hop along May Squeak along Blue, it's a walk-along day It's a long road and weary are we Bubble on kettle and make us all some tea Once there was a gypsy man Selling flowers from a baker's van Bess, she pulled him round the town Pulled her wagon all old and brown Till one day, we took her away Painted her wagon bright and gay Now she finds she's travelling north No more wandering back and forth Jog along Bess, hop along May Squeak along Blue, it's a walk-along day It's a long road and weary are we Bubble on kettle and make us all some tea Once there was an Afghan hound Loved by no one and pushed around Tied up in a stable yard Tangled and timid and howling hard Till one day, we took her away Called her Magog; shortened to May She hurt a paw, made it sore Now she runs on three legs instead of four Jog along Bess, hop along May Squeak along Blue, it's a walk-along day It's a long road and weary are we Bubble on kettle and make us all some tea There lived a dog in London Town With one ear up and the other ear down The neighbours said he mustn't bark The only grass he knew was in Hyde Park Till one day, we took him away Now Blue bounces through fields of hay But he sits and squeals like a squeaky wheel When the wheels are rolling, that's how he feels Jog along Bess, hop along May Squeak along Blue, it's a walk-along day It's a long road and weary are we Bubble on kettle and make us all some tea Little green wagon in a deep blue sky Wheels like dandelions passing by With a picture by Sam, a painting by John And a bonnie black hoss to lead you along Lucky green wagon, you were raggedy brown Now there is red at the hem of your gown And we brought you a pumpkin, brought you a mouse We wished very hard and you gave us a house

I think Vashti Bunyan actually lived in a gypsy caravan for a time and travelled. I mean, some people actually lived their trip, as we used to call it.

Yes she headed north to Skye- and some songs on this the loveliest of albums relate to that.

@@MackerelCat Some carts are pulled by dogs, or at least they used to be. If you've ever read or seen Dog of Flanders, it's a pretty good example of this.

Song of the day 10/12/2016: A Question of Nutrition: it has been the blessing of my year that this album has been so readily available; so appropriate for the wobbly gait from Queen street, up through Kensington market and into the narrow insert of Brunswick Street. It is altogether an extra blessing that it should also fit neatly and evenly within whichever four walls I've managed to cobble together into a home this year: the blue walls in Palmerston that opened its window out to William Oliiphant Lane; thereafter, the wide and low attic on Brunswick street with it's panoramic view of the panoramic maple tree; and finally (hopefully) here on Clinton street, a pinched kitchen turned room with it's cold floors and view towards Christie Pitts and a back alley that too empties into William Olliphant. That this one album, with all its sketches and portraits of the most familiar scenes of road and home, for vagabonds and the dwellers alike, should theme together my vagabond trails and the woolen-blanket homeliness, has been a source of nutrition the storage of which will not be exhausted for years to come. It's been a long road, and very weary this year has become, i'll bubble a kettle and make some tea.

i love the way vashti used to to just story tell her journey, it is a sad loss that her musical journey was as she had children ( aborted)
@FantasyLord192 жыл бұрын
At least she didn't abort her children. She's a good mom, I'm glad her music was eventually recognized and found, and she got the recognition she deserved. We all love her
