Mate i think in the future small home gardens will be very important specially now given there vegie wholesalers in Melbourne are looking at huge rises over the next 10 years and thats gonna be past on to the consumer , tomatos , lettuce , and alot of other vegies can be grown in small spaces .

My first year trying to grow a vegetable garden. I’m getting the impression it’s not going to work out. It sounds like it was easier in years past. Now all I hear is weather is not the same. The sun is hotter the changes in temperature is foiling my chances. I have a lot to learn😊

its all possible, weather definetly can make it harder but like most things it gets easier with time

May I suggest that you look up "Craig Castree". Both Vasili and Craig join forces at times and I've found Craig's method of treating soil not plants has been a God send. Using both Vasili & Craig's ways of veg gardening works. Best thing I ever did because like many people I had given up. 🥰

@@margarethempenstall9741thanks Margaret. I guess gardening requires positive outlook. As I say I’m first timer. I will look up Craig Castree as I have heard his name mentioned on here a bit. Cheers😊

The climate is definitely different to what it was 40 years ago where I live and this year has definitely been a weird one weather wise.... But I've found going with the changes, rather than resisting them has worked for me. I put my veg in 6 weeks earlier than usual in response to Spring beginning in June and everything is growing superbly well. I also moved the entire veg garden (40 m2) into the front garden to take advantage of the house as a wind/frost beak and a large tree to filter the hot afternoon sun; finally, I have the position exactly right. It's your first go. Mistakes are all part of learning. Maybe see if you have a friend or neighbour nearby whose garden is really successful. They'll probably have some helpful tips for your particular location and climate.

Should you also prune cherry tomatoes and Roma tomato plants the same as in the video. Thanks

Hi Vasili, can I just ask you what mulch your using please?? I've been using Pea Mulch but I've noticed this season the price has sky rocketed.

I see broad beans popping up randomly, so I expect it's bean mulch. If they'd been deliberately planted they'd likely be in rows. I like broad bean mulch for the veg patch for its nitrogen-fixing qualities (like pea straw) and I love to munch on the fresh, green broad beans too.
