After the hijacker requested a new detour on the route, this time to São Paulo, the pilot performed a maneuver called "tonneau", where the aircraft performs a complete turn through its longitudinal axis, even though he was unaware of whether the aircraft could sustain such a maneuver. The decision to execute such a maneuver was made to try to unbalance the hijacker, and land at Goiânia airport, which did not happen successfully so the pilot, almost out of fuel and close to Goiânia airport, executed a spiral fall of nine thousand meters that it unbalanced and stunned the kidnapper. The hijacker, after demanding a smaller aircraft to escape, was shot three times by the elite Federal Police team, and died a few days later, a victim of sickle cell anemia. The accident, which had national and international repercussions, had its main cause attributed to the lack of security at Brazilian airports at the time, which did not have x-ray and metal detection machines.
