That engine (and the other parts) look like a great find. I'd certainly change the belts before you swap the motors, if only for peace of mind, and consider checking the valve clearances as it's a much easier job when the engine's out of the frame. The shock looks nice but, if it's from a Tuono Factory, I think it may be too long. Measure it between the mounting hole centres - your 620 would be 305mm. The main problem may be the fixed remote reservoir - I'm not sure there is enough clearance to fit the horizontal type. The Öhlins version for the 620 had a vertical fixed remote reservoir. It's great that you're refreshing the bike and plan to keep it - it deserves a happy retirement!
@ducatinyc
@ducatinyc 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The whole job seems so overwhelming right now that idea of extra belt/valve change is extra overwhelming but ur right. Same about the Shock - yea, i bet it will be way too long but - who knows. Fun to dream for now. It will be a super fun and educational and almost therapeutic experience.
@sv650nyc7
@sv650nyc7 2 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's quite a major rebuild! Regarding the Öhlins shock, just replace the spring with a softer one and it will be perfect. A new spring is only around $100 and you can sell the other spring for $50 or more. Also get heavier fork springs ($120) and your bike will be well balanced for your body weight. I have a spring compressor, hit me up if you want to borrow it. It's trivial to replace the spring. Let me know if you have any questions. Some details (all numbers in lbs/in):: - stock shock spring rate: 433 - recommended shock spring rate for 180 lbs rider w/o gear (accd. to Racetech): 504 - Öhlins 01091-31/95 spring rate: 642 (or 95 Nm/mm) So you need a softer spring. The Öhlins -26 has 485, the -29 has 514. So an Öhlins spring 01091-26/85 or 01091-29/90 will be perfect, depending on your actual weight and preference for comfort over performance. Other specs of the Öhlins shock spring: 160mm length, 57mm inner diameter - stock fork spring rate: 34 & 45 (progressive spring) - recommended for 180 lbs rider w/o gear: 48 DM me on Insta for all the links I've used.

Interesting vid, duc. The purpose of an odometer is to "clock" the engine life. However, u r making a lot of major swaps, so y clock the new dial 2 the old engine as opposed 2 the new engine? It's like clocking a new bike to add the mileage of your first bike? Does any of this makes any sense 2 u? What exactly will your new odometer b representing, ego vs misrepresentation? Anyway, wishing u a fun swap, god bless u.
@ducatinyc

Since the motor and the odometer have both 10000 miles, why would you try to set the new odometer to 60000? I mean isn't the odometer supposed to show the miles that your motor has done? Good luck with your project! It will need a lot of patience but it will worth it! Take care :)

That would make sense in one way but I want to capture the total mileage done by "the bike" not just the motor. Perhaps thats silly. I'll always remember that i swapped it around 60k and i'm keeping the bike forever so ti doesnt matter. It will be one hell of a tricky project for sure.
