its amazing how much free to air stuff is on other satellites too

How faint a signal will the meter pick up? I’m looking to use the type of meter you have to search for a faint signal through scrub then trim the scrub to get a strong signal. I don’t want to destroy forest unnecessarily (house install). Whilst it displays “percentage”, will it display a “1%” signal during scanning?

No it won’t. Foliage contains water and water interrupts the signal. But the elevation is 60 degrees so your ‘scrub’ must be very high. Can you move the dish back away from the scrub or left or right of it?

@@wanderinghuckleberrys I’ll have a crack. Was wondering what device picks up faint signals? I mean, the finder has a 0-100 scale, any idea what the minimum signal percentage is that it will display? Do they tend to “jump” from 0 to 50 or something? For an offset dish at Denmark WA I have 33°. But that includes the reflection at an angle to the LNB?

Generally the meter is almost always displaying at least 50% signal even when not pointed at a particular satellite. So that won’t help. I have a very sensitive $8000 meter for work but that’s super over kill for VAST services. It’s the quality that is the true indicator. And that will start at around 20% and run up to 100%

@@wanderinghuckleberrys Cheers mate! Really appreciate the fast reply. New to sat finders so the knowledge is great to know.

How far in should the horn be in the clamp? Does it tune more by moving it in and out? Cheers mate

Yes, the when you move the LNB it will affect the tune. The connector on the LNB should be at 7 o'clock for best signal. Moving forward and back will also slightly affect the signal strength.
