Working “smarter” is management speak for dumping the work on fewer employees and expecting it to be done beautifully. The fabulous John Allen on spectacularly good form again - I want even to say impious! Some allege Americans have no sense of humour, but the way he so NEARLY sends himself up with a presentation style that is a combination of Victorian Barnum's Grand Circus ringmaster riffing on the theme of excitable 1950s home grown "football" commentator (ie rugby in motorbike helmets and funny rules....) and therefore about a century out of date, I think that's nowadays called "vintage" or "veteran" by those trendier than myself but anyway, works for me. Even when the more sombre notes are introduced (no danger of that today, mind!), there's just something so raffishly upbeat, I never fail to be amused (in spite of what I sometimes write in reply, usually to items which trigger me and during which I very much illustrate his art by comparison to my own clumsy and grinding diatribe!). Perhaps "wholesomely entertained" or cheered up might be more appropriate but I think I make myself clear 😏 Vivat Johannes Americensis🥰

It all started with the pitchers who fearing being hit by a fast ball no longer wished to stand at the plate knowing, as they did, the damage a fast ball can do one if one was hit by it.

But the West is also experiencing grave violence -the number of violent deaths in the US alone is staggering -and extreme poverty, unemployment, anxiety, depression, hopelessness, suicide. It isn't the "West", but small yet vocal groups, who push special-interest agendas and act like they speak for the major concerns of the West. But they do not. Faithful Catholics here in the US will talk about concerns such their children losing faith, priests who aren't behaving in the most inspiring of ways, laity being shut out of active involvement in the life of their parish communities despite a decades-long call to the involvement of laity in the New Evangelization. They will speak of suffering in themselves, their loved ones, the wider community in mental, physical, emotional and spiritual matters. The elderly packed into nursing homes, children who don't feel loved or valued and are mercilessly bullied, workplaces that use up people as if they objects, the threat of technologies to further push workers out of the workforce, and wondering where God is in all the suffering. We are no different in our concerns and sufferings than our brothers and sisters from other parts of the world. When you cut us, do we not bleed? Do not, John, I beg of you, encourage divisions within God's Holy Church by continuing to press this false and damaging narrative.
@daniellejarvis1572 ай бұрын
I disagree that laity are being shut out of active involvement. In my experience, mass has become a 'participation sport', with the parishes pushing as many people to be 'doing' something, so they are distracted, and distracting, from the mass. They've created a social event, where people chat in the pews and do choir practice before mass, making it impossible for the very few people actually coming in early to pray and prepare themselves for mass. I absolutely HATE the 'new evangalization'. Nobody is praying anymore!

As an I-O Psychologists, I have to comment that the Vatican like most countries in the world, does not operate its activities (Business, and otherwise) the way the US does. And this is okay. Because as Hofstede's Dimensions illustrate, each country, region, in deed culture varies based on these dimensions. So we should not be surprised nor offended that others do things differently. In fact, in classes that teach diversity, this is an important topic, that often US citizens struggle with, especially those who claim they promote diversity.

Catholicism is work salvation, please turn to Christ in faith as the Bible clearly says we are saved by grace which translates to CHARIS meaning "unmeritted favor/free gift." quite literally. There is a Reason why Paul says in Romans "for the wages of sin is death, but the FREE gift of God is eternal life through christ Jesus our lord." Again grace's literal translation in the Greek is "unmeritted favor/free gift." Salvation is completely free all you have to do is believe that what Jesus did for you 2000 years ago actually worked. He died as a substitute for sin on the cross for you and me because the penalty for sin is death, if the penalty has already been paid and "by grace you have saved through faith" then all you are doing is believing that his payment was for you, a.k.a excepting it and believing you have eternal life as a result of his finished work (and of course believing he rose from the dead as a dead savior can't save you.) The reason you cannot add a work to Christ's finished work is because as Paul makes clear in Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." You aren't under grace if you add something to the gospel because grace must be unmeritted for it to be attributed to you. Again, you are just trusting in what Christ already did for you, that's why in ephesians Paul says "after you believed, you were sealed with that holy spirit of promise, which is the GUARANTEE of our inherentance until the redemption of the purchased possession." Paul can't use the word guarantee here if salvation is partially based off of something you do, as obviously YOU can fail in your efforts meaning there is obviously no guarantee. But if it is entirely based off of what Christ did, then there is a guarantee.

@femaleKCRoyalsFan Ephesians 2:8-9 "for by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves it is a GIFT of God. Not of works lest anyman should boast." Salvation is by grace through faith alone, you cannot add anything or you are not under grace. The Greek translation for the word grace is CHARIS meaning "unMERITTED favor." Simply believe the gospel to be saved and be saved permanently. "After you BELIEVED, you were sealed with the holy spirit of promise who is the GUARANTEE of our inherentance until the redemption of the purchased possession." Romans 11:7 "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work."
