Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, is facing increasingly strong opposition inside the Vatican. The conservative clan of the Roman Curia - the powerful governing body of the Holy See - accuses him of a laxist vision of Catholic doctrine, particularly regarding the status of homosexual couples and divorced people in the Church. Our Rome correspondent Natalia Mendoza reports from the Vatican’s corridors of power on this growing conflict between tradition and modernity.

Celibacy is ultimate act of Humility. Only people not really loyal to Church (or more loyal to world) would want the Church to give-up or stop the practice of Celibacy.

I think people who are loyal to the church recognise the abuse crisis is the worst thing that has happened to us since the reformation. And that recruiting married clergy would (a) reduce the massive homosexual influence in the clergy which would undermine the relationship between abuse tolerance and blackmail and (b) increase the number of people who have a literal parents care for kids.

Beautiful that they are, their union is not from God. God structured His decree on Marriage. Marriage is between a man and a woman. We can talk ourselves to accepting anything if it suite our purpose. God does not compromise with truths.

@@TwinFalls88the words of the Pope have been praised by LGBTQ activists as progress. It is not calling for gay marriage but is accepting a blessing of them. They should receive blessings and forgiveness but at the same time be told that they are sinners and need to repent. Just as all of us are

It helps people to understand that many times in the past, popes have caused great division, and many popes were outright immoral people. This is fact. However, the Church always resets and survives, and importantly it has always survived with its basic tenets - from 2000 years of history - intact.

The upper echelons of the church need a profound change of mind and hearts and return to a focus on matters that count - root out the sex and financial scandals that are currently soft pedaled. Return more forcibly to the enduring established teachings. There should be no novelty of new teachings to accommodate those living in sin. Pray for sinners but do not change teachings. Yes, the church will suffer in reduced numbers but will later increase.

The ongoing insistence on altering the Church appears not only absurd but also sinister. Essentially, it implies challenging the divine, suggesting that God's original design for His Church is flawed, and that our supposed enlightenment demands a change in God Himself! How evil we are as a human race.

It was never necessary for gay people to keep their faith hidden from view, as claimed by the gay dad with his victim mentality. It was necessary not to flout his relationship in peoples faces. And of course his children are accepted, always were. But he has to recognise what scripture says. Its ok to be same sex attracted but not to indulge in the sexual lifestyle . His choice.m

You see how he creats CONFUSION. Francis says a COUPLE is NOT a UNION, the blessings aré for the INDIVIDUALS but he is at best ignorant or naive. He is always AMBIGUOUS and he DELIVERATLY IGNORES the meaning of "Couple". Having a couple, being a couple means having an intimate relationship, not just a friendship. And now people promote "the blessings of homo-unions". But Francis insists he is not BLESSING UNIIONS. HE IS VERY CONFUSING!!!!🙏

Because of his rather Ultramontane tendencies, Francis by his consistories will restore the next papacy to the European church. He’s made cardinals out of churchmen close to Rome-Malta, Corsica, Luxembourg. And he’s been quick to replace the old guard with his clones in prime sees elsewhere in Europe. What about what he calls the “peripheries,” such as Rangoon, Mongolia, Osaka…? The churches there are exactly in the peripheries and too much of a minority for their cardinals to carry much weight in the next conclave. Francis, who’s Italian-Hispanic American, is paving the way for a European, if not an Italian, restoration of the papacy.

No one lives forever. We will all die and give an account of our lives to Jesus. Jesus said to whom much is given much will be required. The Pope has an enormous responsibility to guide people to live in accordance with scripture, the law and word of God, the true teaching handed down by the apostles. God help us all.

I love the Pope, i understand what hes trying to do. The right have successfully misrepresented almost all the good work hes done. They are the modern temple priests. Pope Francis follows thr teaching of Christ with regards the Poor, he is compassionate, he is forgiving. Hes been undermined by people who put liturgical practice before Christs teachings, literally out of spite. God bless him and God help them. He is a saint.

Right, left, conservative, liberal (or progressive) are political terms. In faith, in religious beliefs and practices you are either Orthodox or unorthodox. Not wise to contrafict and oppose what God has revealed. The Catholic Church is accepting of people with same sex attractions. Read the Catechism of the Catholic Church. You always love the sinner but hate the sin. We all must repent, be converted and turn away from our sins, That applies to sll sins and sinners. Jesus told the woman caught in afultery to "go and sin no more". He did not condemn her but he did not condone the sin and his words were clear, do not commit this sin again. We all sin but to receive God's mercy and forgiveness we have to repent and admit that what God calls sin is sin and turn away from it with a firm purpose of amendment.

You are obviously very underinformed about this pope and about his history. The right have NOT in fact "misrepresented" his views, but rather have exposed them. I have noted from the beginning that he is thoroughly socialist in his views (contrast this with the anti-Communist teaching of Pope John Paul II - a true saint!) and that he is only concerned about some types of poor - namely those with brown skin. The thousands of dead white Americans and Europeans at the hands of these "'poor"" immigrants never matter to him.
