(edit: because some of you fellas refused to read the first thing i wrote, i need to dumb it down for you. i don't hate jeff/annie as a ship. i'm saying it was a ship that was done dirty multiple times and with contradictory manhandling, and their shippers knew it too.) no hate to jeff/annie shippers because hey, you do you, but it was so funny to me that jeff and britta were initially presented as the study group’s pseudo-parents. only for jeff to kiss said “daughter.” then they just kept pointing out how creepy their relationship was and immediately bounce back to the usual flirting and fan-service 😭 this isn’t even an issue of the modern times btw, i literally saw jeff-annie shippers live question this “”self-aware”” writing choice that made it hard for them to support the pairing.

A lot of people are just weird when it comes to age difference in relationships. Like it's obviously one thing if one person is of an age younger than what is legal, but then many people will move the goalposts and say that well 18 is just fresh out of high school and being a teen so it's more appropriate if they're at least a couple years older, which I think is what even a lot of Jeff-Annie shippers have trouble grappling with. While it is fair to question whether even most 18 year olds are 'mature' enough to date people several years older than them or in general, what's messed up is how if somebody were to say that they find a person attractive but then you told them that they were a teenager or a really young adult, they would immediately recoil and change their opinion about them. Heck, Alison Brie was already in her late 20s when the show began. And it's not like she had to undergo cosmetic surgery or other major changes to her appearance in order to 'look' more like an 18-year old. Although I certainly don't think it helped how the two of them were both written in such a way where it kind of played into the common stereotypes and prejudices of relationships where there is a big age difference and one person, especially the woman is particularly young.
