People who are against abortions but do not show up to support adequate care for people born with developmental challenges (like down syndrome) are the worst sort of hypocrites. I work as a healthcare worker that specializes in care for people with cognitive impairment. Not an American, but even here in Europe the first people to suffer from cuts is people who can not take care of themselves. People against abortions will organize, be politically and socially active, in service of their cause. Yet once a person is born they will abandon them to suffering, loneliness, passivity, and deny them healthcare. Now I know religious people that DO show up to help, to do what they can to give people with cognitive disabilities a worthy life, I do not know what their stance is on abortion, and if they are against it that is okay, at least they show up and make an effort. I can say that I have spoken a few women over the years who came into this profession generally feeling like they would never have an abortion (this wasn't always religious motivated, just a personal commitment), but after a while their stance is that if they get pregnant they are getting checked, and if there is even a slight issue they'll have an abortion. Not because they want to, but because the way we as a society fail to take care of our weakest members is so disturbing that they do not want to ever risk inflicting that upon their own children. I wish even a fraction of the people marching Against abortions would march FOR a society that actually cares for everyone.

Not when I was a young kid, but when I was dealing with depression in high school and was struggling to think straight. I can’t remember how they phrased stuff specifically, but I remember thinking through the roundabout way they said things (very “oh, if you care about kids, you’ll sign this!” or “I know you must be a nice person, right?” kind of stuff) and realizing I had probably just screwed up royally by signing an anti-abortion thing. I did so because they surrounded me and ushered me into a tent thing with only people who agreed with them... I was old enough to know better (16? 17?), but I was not mentally prepared to have that happen right before I went to lunch, so I signed their paper to make them go away so that I could get my food, pretty much. It was crappy of them but I still blame myself for getting blindsided and giving in due to my anxiety. I hope my name on whatever list or petition they put me on didn’t condemn some poor woman. 😢 I still feel awful about it, 10-ish years later, but seeing Kaitlin do this makes me think it’s honestly more on them. They’ll find someone who looks vulnerable (adult, teen, or child) and prey on the vulnerabilities. It’s sick. I hate it so much. They have preyed on people I know of now, people in their mid-20s, the same way. “Oh, you look cold! Midwest winters, am I right? Here, we have hot cocoa in this room. Oh, you seem so nice. Actually, we’re doing this petition thing...” and if you have social anxiety? That’s HELL for you and they know it. Katlyn Bennett came to a restaurant I was working at …. She ordered a chicken dinner , I brought her a omelet and she wanted to complain to my manager. I explained to my manager that eggs 🥚 and chickens 🐓 are the same exact thing to her . . . My boss asked her to leave if she didn’t like her meal. She kept saying “that’s not what I ordered” and I kept saying “yes it is” she wanted to get mad 😡 and got up so hard and fast the chair 🪑 fell over. Literally. In her book a omelet is ready same thing as a fired chicken dinner
