It's not even surprising any more, conservatives always find something to whine about with the superbowl. Remember when for like 20 years, every conservative halftime show was some aincient Wonderbread country singer? Well that's because the NFL was dumb enough to take conservative whinging about the halftime show seriously. Now the NFL has learned to ignore them, and the halftime show is a hundred times better because of it. Conservatives have no idea what they want, they are eternally dissatisfied with everyone and everything. All trying to appease them will do, will make you just as miserable as they are.

Conservatives take this approach to media, broadly. We see the same thing with Disney being "woke", Mr Potato Head having the "Mr" taken out of his name, and business putting "Happy Holidays" signs in their stores during December. For a group of people who call the other side "snowflakes", they manage to get upset over very miniscule issues.

@@electron155 it was created because Americas Anthem ( the full version) has a line that is arguably racist/pro slavery and people argued if it was about real slaves or a metaphor for a couple decades before the song became Americas official anthem. This is why there was a delay in the song being written and the song being adopted. Black people rightfully refused to sing the song and created an alternative ( i shouldn’t even say create, because lift every voice and sing is a church song). To solve this issue- the star spangled banner was shortened and the version people sing today omits the slave part. However this short version isnt ..truley the offical anthem- because the offical one is still the OG version. But this is just how we dodge the race issues bullet. Heres the line. “No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

It is referred in the black community as “the black national anthem”. It’s replaced with the regular national anthem to honor our history and struggle. Because as I’m sure many of you know, in the past it was pretty hard for black people (and still is) to really feel American. So we dubbed our own national anthem and still sing it to this day. Our original cultures and histories were erased, so yes we have a “black national anthem”.

Written in 1900 by James Weldon Johnson, the song was originally penned as a poem celebrating Abe Lincoln's birthday and reflecting on the triumphs of Black Americans. The song was eventually adopted by the NAACP and came to prominence during the Civil Rights Movement in the '50s and '60s. A choir of 500 schoolchildren at the segregated Stanton School, where James Weldon Johnson was principal, first performed the song in public in Jacksonville, Florida to celebrate President Abraham Lincoln's birthday. At the turn of the 20th century, Johnson's lyrics eloquently captured the solemn yet hopeful appeal for the liberty of Black Americans. Set against the religious invocation of God and the promise of freedom, the song was later adopted by NAACP and prominently used as a rallying cry during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s.

Its important to remember that calling Lift Every Voice was called the black national anthem by the NAACP in 1912 bc it was a non racist song about lifting all people up as equals. Comversly, the original poem of the star spangled banner references slaves running or going to the grave and free men fighting to protect their homeland. It literally is a poem turned song that sets up the country as being for whites and upholds the idea of blacks being cowards and not being equal. As such the NAACP rejected that as a true national anthem and ssid the gospel song about all people being equal was a true anthem that spoke to all people rather than just white folks.

So people are unfamiliar with the history of the Star Spangled Banner and that it never really was fully embraced by non-whites in the USA, particularly because of its racist line in the original: "No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave." The British freed enslaved Africans who fought with them. When the USA won, they were re-enslaved again. To pretend the USA has the exact same history and relationship with Native Americans, Africans brought over to be slaves, Mexicans who lost land and were driven further south, Chinese laborers, etc. as it did with white, male, Christian landowners is to be obtuse. Native Americans also have their own anthems they sing that honor their experience. So do African American Americans. When people are excluded they create their own. Don't denounce the beauty they created, let it teach you about why such a song had to be created in the first place.

Here's the heart of the matter that I wish Vaush would have illuminated in this video: The lyrics of "Lift Every Voice" referring to "The Dark Passage" and such are very much allusions to the trans-Atlantic slave trade specifically, making the song an inspiration of hope that Black Americans can have their voices lifted to join in the participation, dignity, and joy already enjoyed by the privileged mainstream, having overcome a history of violence and disenfranchisement. It's assimilationist by way of both its message and its framing in the form of a Christian Hymn. So it's especially absurd for Walsh et. al. to be wilfully attempting to separate the sort of "Black Lives Matter" parts away from the Christian assimilationist feel-good song and be divisive about it with a tirade about how lifting that Christian assimilationism up as an example by platforming it during this "Great American Tradition" is somehow divisive and against that same Christian assimilation he's explicitly loading "The Star Spangled Banner" with in the very same sentence. He is so starved for content to fill his channel with that he's willing to try a takedown piece of the Nice Respectable and Proper way to do inclusion he claims to want and which favors the status quo he desperately clings to. Surely he of all people should prefer this display to protests in the streets. Would you like the people to go burn down a police station instead of gathering to listen to a nice song and watch your precious traditional American Sport, Mr. Walsh? You will never be Respectable enough for the Right Wing, as long as you continue to exist in their sight. This performance is a perfect example of what its proponents claimed they wanted from all of us, and when they actually have it in front of them they spit all over this, too. What they always push for is silence and disappearance.

It was adopted in 1982, replacing the previous New Zealand anthem "God Defend New Zealand". "Ko e Iki he Lagi" (English: "The Lord in Heaven"), also titled in English as "Lord in heaven, Thou art merciful",[1] is the national anthem of Niue. For those who don't know, Lift Every Voice is commonly referred to as the Black National Anthem (or negro anthem by old heads) by black folks. It's also not just a Christian hymn. It is specifically a negro spiritual, which while they are Christian hymns and use that imagery, they are mostly about deliverance from oppression

Ah yes, I remember. We always needed a new team of all new players literally every season because it's just a terrible fact that when you play a whole season of football, you end up paralyzed.

They always can't just say "giving it attention" they have to say "making it MORE IMPORTANT AND TAKING AWAY" And then "like the situation hasn't improved for them over the last 100 years" um. So I thought the Matt Walshes of the world cared about "heritage"

The "so called" Black National Anthem has been around since 1900. It is a poem. How long has Matt Walsh been around? Who is Matt Walsh again? Is he a failed comedian? Matt, THIS IS THE UNITED STATES, not "any other country."
