Fantastic cars, this is my second. Comfortable, fast, versatile, economical, good looking and the diesels are chain cams so no belts to change. As the reviewer says, go for the 134 bhp diesel.

Great review. I’ve watched this a number of times and have now bought an Elite. Very well presented, professional and fair. One point, the ‘service’ apparently costs £79/year; very steep in my opinion.

Ive got one as a company car its quite chuckable into bends the front grips better than my 3series. I get 66ish mpg and 52 if more in towns, suburban roads, short drives etc......so pretty good. My gripe is the window switches are too far back from a natural hand position

I keep considering others for my next car, but I always come back to the new Astra. It really does seem to have everything you could want in a car. It's nicely designed on the outside, it has one of the best-looking interiors in any segment at any price, and being able to have a 150PS 1.4 turbo petrol with a 6-speed auto is just the perfect combination for me. Still a couple of years finance left on my current car (Clio GT Line), but Vauxhall - you've got a customer in waiting here!

My grandparents just bought one. But we live in Norway so it is an Opel Astra.

Here in Brazil we don't have stations anymore. We have only the VW Golf Variant to be honest. We also don't have Vauxhall here, only Chevrolet. But Chevrolet will never bring Cruze SW to our tropical lanes. You're lucky.

The bottom part of the rear seats un clip to remove and then they are 50/50 folding seats not 60 /40 , gives a totally flat space

Vauxhall have recently stopped production of the Astra estate and, production of the Insignia estate. I currently have a 2019 Vauxhall Astra Elite Nav 1.4 petrol turbo 150 bhp Sports Tourer, this is my 23rd Vauxhall but I will never buy another new Vauxhall as I only like sport tourers ( estate ) why have they stopped production of these cars....probably to get people to buy money wasting SUV,S? Look forward to hearing your views on this, oh and keep up the good work your reviews are always very good and informative. Would really like to hear your views on the latest Hyundai i30 tourer automatic as I am thinking of one of these for my next purchase, or should I stick with my Astra?

Yea I've been in one regularly and it's like a TARDIS. when in the back you have a football pitch of legroom with the front seats all the way back and tons of boot space

Have 2014 1.6 petrol auto estate. 42 mpg if driven c60 on motorway ..70..more like36 mpg..

The problem is it's a Vauxhall - my new car is Vauxhall Astra - not really a good ring to it is now? That onstar thing would have been good about 6 years ago but now.... Car with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto please....

I have just taken delivery of my Astra, and for me it's not about the "I drive a..." . If I wanted to brag about the car I drove, I'd have quite easily stretched for something like an A Class, and got 50% of the kit for 150% of the money. OnStar is a totally different idea from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, although for me it's use is limited so I don't intend to pay for the service. Coincidentally, all new Astra come with CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

Couldn't disagree more, crossovers and SUVs are just hideous wannabe off-roaders; a good 70% aren't even 4x4, and most don't have f all ground clearance. To top it all off, many have less interior space than an estate, and are certain to handle worse, due to their ride height and increased weight.

For years car designers have been going to extraordinary lengths to make their cars uglier, fatter, over styled and generally vulgar. Part of this problem is the implementation of so called external pedestrian safety features, to protect those dumb smartphone robot addicts, who wander into the road and end up on the bonnet of some unfortunate driver.

I purchased the Opel Astra SC Model. in first year the bushings changed twice...Sterring rack replaced a year later. Back wiper reservoir pipe cracked so couldnt use it. Suspension changed.. Recall for the brakes..For last year there is a dirty tapping rattle noise that is so anoying that i hope the car just blows the engine. I bought from new and its broken my heart.. do not buy opel astras....

Actually the production of the current Astra is Poland & Ellesmere Port England, all the sports tourers are made in England.
