Lifesaver mate, thanks so much for the video. Like another commenter said, the car key itself can be used to open the boot from the inside without having to loosen the trim. The key is oblong, so you put the tip of the key in vertically and you can just about flick the switch to open the boot. As for the fix, once the boot was open, I just sprayed a tonne of WD40 into the lock mechanism, and that was it! Started working again!

I shut the boot with a table cloth got jammed in the lock got inside with a crowbar could not force it,saw your tip online got open within seconds great thanks 😁

Have this issue with mine at the moment. I probably looked at this video the last time and the thing decided to work without help 😂 I don't of it's age as mine is around 14. I may look into getting a new actuator some time

It's a common problem I'm afraid. Usually the switch itself is the fault but at least they allow you to open it manually. Some manufacturers don't. Good luck.

Mine won’t budge. Had my rear window smashed, opened initially and now won’t open or close properly. I assume there is glass in the mechanism but I can’t get it open to clear it out. It makes the noise and the little black but tries to move but just can’t. Any advice?! Going a little mad ha!

You will need the plastic panel off, if you haven't removed it already. Then you should be able to see the obstruction. A vacuum might remove it or a small flat blade screw driver. Without seeing it in person it's hard to see what the best method would be.

Vauxhall Meriva(A)...the same ? Before start pulling lower cover off. As not exposed from inside.

Usually it's the boot switch itself but I think the wiring loom going into the boot is common for breaking. You will need the boot open to see the black rubber weather seal. It comes out of the roof section of the car and into the top of the boot. You will need to peel it back and check there are no broken wires. If you have noticed anything else on the rear end not working (wiper/washers or bulbs) then it's likely this is what has happened.

Good tip. But the lock isnt fixed that way if its faulty. Cant keep doing this anytime your boot is jammed

You can open its as many times as you need to this way. If it's not working properly there is a fault somewhere. Boot switches and the wiring loom going into the boot are the most common causes. Latches do fail but this is a less common cause, I hope this helps you get it sorted.

@@Papa77sGarage thanks, it just suddenly stopped opening after i changed a fuse fir the washer system which blew due to the bit under the wheel arch not having thawd out. Shit car, no spare wheel, going bk to an old ford focus if i can get one with low mileage...thanks again x

The wiring that goes into the boot is pretty common on these. Have you noticed anything else not work at the rear end? Wiper, washer, lights etc. You can see the weather shield with the boot open, it's black and rubber. It needs peeling back to expose the wiring. Another common fault is the latch itself but I'd check the wiring first as it won't cost you anything. That's about all I can suggest without actually having the vehicle in front of me. Good luck.

Sometimes the bolts that hold the latch on are accessible so try undoing them but failing that brute force may be the way to go. Make so you have a replacement latch before you try this approach so you can close the boot again. Unless you have a garage to keep it in that is.

Brilliant - But once open, a common problem on this model is the solenoid on the lock fails Why ? Answer. Cable breas where it bends when th rear hatch opens. This has happewnd twice - Once the rear wiper failed and now the boot lock. I managed to piece out the cables. Its a poor design of cable material by Vauxhall.

You are right about that, Corsa E is worse for it. I remember replacing the boot loom on a 4 year old one. Also all the wires are black so if there are multiple broken you can't colour code them back together.

Anyone else notice that their reverse light and rear windscreen wipers don't work in addition to the faulty electronic boot mechanism? Any idea of how to fix this? Fearful of ringing Vauxhall as I am sure they'll charge me a small fortune to even look at the car let alone repair it. Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers.

The boot switch will need testing, this is the most common failure. Wiring to the boot itself can break and the least common issue is the latch.

If you have a parcel shelf then you will need to fold the seats down. The trim probably doesn't need to come off but it's easier to show what it is you are actually looking for with it removed.
