Old car memorabilia time! In 1964 a shiny new Vauxhall Victor FB estate was up for grabs in a charity competition, organised by The Society for the Aid of Thalidomide Children.
Featured in this video is a complete, unused, set of entry forms for this competition, first prize of which was the aforementioned Vauxhall Victor, an FB series car that would soon be replaced in Vauxhall dealerships by the replacement FC (aka 101) Victors.
In the video I talk about the history of the Vauxhall Victor FB, and then the competition to win one. Rather than being a raffle, the posed question actually required a fair amount of head-scratching by anyone planning to enter the competition (charged at one shilling per entry).
Who won this now-classic car? Did anyone in fact win the Victor FB estate? Does anyone know the outcome of this competition to win a brand new Vauxhall Victor estate? Is the car still around? So many questions, if you can add in any details about this magnificent competition prize, please add a note in the comments section.
If you'd like to see more "deep dives" into some of the classic car memorabilia (aka automobilia) cluttering up Old Classic Car HQ, again please let me know in the comments.
Have you ever won a car in a competition - Vauxhall or otherwise?

My parents owned a two tone green Victor FB estate in the mid-late 60's - VRM 630 RKO and sold it to my brother in the early 70's. It was sold on to someone else near Maidstone in Kent after that. Many happy memories

As a kid circa 1967, going on a camping holiday with my friend and his mum and dad, Val & Rob... The car we were travelling in was a Vauxhall FB Victor estate, in two tone White with a yellow mustard / gold top. Rob wasn't a fast driver at all. We approached a reduce speed sign when Val said " bloody hell Rob" " if we reduce speed we'll bloody well stop" my friend wayne and myself couldn't stop laughing, as the first time we ever heard his mum swear. 😅 enjoyable video thank you.

Hello I had a two tone green deluxe saloon FB back in the 1980s. It was originally owned by a titled gentleman and purchased from what I believe was the oldest Vauxhall dealer in the UK. Tom Brown in Torquay Devon. Unfortunately the car is no longer with us but I still have the original green log book and a tin of vauxhall light green touch up paint. Thalidomide was such a tragic thing and I have a huge respect for the people that were affected by this.

I don't remember that particular competition but I do remember Welch's of Bristol being the main Vauxhall/Bedford dealers for our area, they also had a showroom, workshop and parts counter in Cork St. Frome, you can't beat the distinctive smell of a proper old-school parts counter, mainly brake linings! In later years Welch's opened up the Kawasaki Centre next to their Avon St. St. Pillips, Bristol..The Cork St. Frome garage was closed and Welch's moved to Portway, Frome near the railway station. There's still a petrol station on the site, but the name Welch has passed into history.

My dear parents bought a new FB in Australia in, I think, 1963. It was my pleasant task every Sunday after church to clean and polish its blue and white paint and chrome. Thereby, I got to know every square inch of that car! We loved it. We monitored its fuel consumption quite carefully and I recall 35mpg being it's normal consumption at a gentle speed on country roads. We were happy with that. And I was once allowed to flatten the accelerator and we saw 78mph with three on board! Thankfully, no kangaroos shared that road with us that afternoon! 🙏 As a school lad I always enjoyed its 'sporty' exhaust note! Got my driver license in that Victor. Very fond memories. Nice episode; thank you.

Our neighbour's daughter , Clare was a thalidomide . I think it was a "wonder drug" imported from Germany but developed in Switzerland to help pregnancies . Unfortunately new born babies were born without limbs / arms . Clare had no arms but that didn't prevent her from going to university and passing her driving test. Typically , there was very little help or admission of fault from the manufacturers or health service . A very close family friend had Vauxhalls tnroughtout the 1960's including Velox, Cresta, and Viscount . Thankyou Richard

Yes, I love this type of emphemera. Reading the text on the tickets down to the very last detail - oh yes. I'd enjoy seeing similar features on the channel. So interesting to get a glimpse of life in 1964.

Very much like the PB Cresta, the FB Victor although still an attractive car could possibly be described as a little bit 'boring' after the FA Victor.l know which one l liked the most.

Very interesting and I'd enjoy seeing more videos similar to this. But then all your videos are interesting! Back in the 50's and 60's my dad entered competitions published in newspapers (such as the Daily Express) for oddball micro cars, but nothing as grand as a 'proper' car was ever offered, and he never won, thank goodness! I would have died of shame having to travel in one, especially as the next door neighbour had a Jag! The cynic in me says you could usually tell if the run of a model was being ended if the car was being offered as a competition prize.............

I had an FB 1964 victor bought it for £100 in 1982 , it was jacked up on Jag 5 stud wheels had an electric ariel and was covered in rust it also had 'piston slap'. I got pulled everyday by the police I loved it but it eventually seized on the A63 in Leeds known as the mad mile , my dad owned a 101 D reg when I was about 7 years old.

I saw a picture of Austin Allegro convertible in the UK newspapers yesterday. Some other Tuber's 100-odd cars barn find. It must have been a custom job and weakened the body. 😁👍

To GiulianoMarco. I can tell you some more about the Allegro convertible! FIRSTLY Austin and also Morris both were founder members of the British Leyland group of companies. So when they ended production of the Morris Minor, it was logical to make a convertible of Austin's car, because they were the same size. BUT, (as far as I'm aware) the Morris Minor still had some strong beams underneath, to re-inforce it - .almost like even older cars had a CHASSIS underneath. (Correct me if I'm wrong). But of course they DO re-inforce cars that get made into convertibles. THIRDLY, the handful of convertible Allegros made didn't actually come from British Leyland, they were made for a car dealer, SPIKINS, of Twickenham. The Allegro's shape looks PERFECT as a convertible! FOURTH: and I SHOULD KNOW! I met some other local Allegro owners, and somebody HAD one of the convertibles! AND he let us sit in it! The owner had even changed the interior to the interior of a Vanden Plas Allegro, with its leather seats, and wood dashboard! Fantastic car! We all wanted it!

Austin and Morris amalgamated to become the British Motor Corporation, BMC, early in 1952. The last Morris 1000 Tourer (Convertible) was built on August 18th 1969. The production of the Austin Allegro did not commence until May 1973, which was four years after the Morris 1000 Tourer ceased production, so I fail to see the connection between the two cars............... @@nygelmiller5293
