Think of the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer as a more upmarket and stylish replacement for the Zafira and a more direct competitor to the Ford S-MAX. As of its launch at the beginning of 2012 the Tourer will be sold side-by-side with the Zafira but with prices for the Tourer starting at £21,000 -- about £6,000 more than the car it effectively replaces. The engine line-up and chassis have both been updated for a more stable and involving driving experience with better performance and cheaper running costs. Our pick would be one of the 2.0-litre diesel engines -- the 163bhp unit in particular -- as we expect the petrols will be costly to run.

Well, I've pretty much always driven Vauxhalls (Opals). First the Corsa, then the Zafira, then the Tourer, and they've all been very reliable, practical cars. I I don't need anything flashy. I've got kids and they trash everything they sit in anyway. I just need something spacious, which gets us from A to B without breaking down. This car does it for me. :) Have driven the S Max and a Kia Sedona and quite liked them, but always preferred coming back to my own car. The only thing I miss about the S Max, is the fast defrost on the windscreen, in Winter. Tourer only has it on the back screen. :(

Now that I think about it it makes sense, I guess it has to do with the steering-wheel being on the right side. So Vauxhall mounts it directly without having to change it from Opel's postion.. smart move indeed.

Got the elite version with every option ticked including the bike carrier and the continual damping system. A seriously underestimate car. Such a shame its no longer made. Cant fault the car

my 02 hyundai trajet is much better than alot of family cars now adays it has 7 full sized seats that slide recline and can be removed. It's not unrilable rather in the 13 years we have it it has broken down 2 and very little has had to is also comfortable and east to drive

After the Signum's celery holders, GM engineers once again show a level of thoughtfulness and attention to detail that we've simply don't see it from any other car maker. In most cars, the banana rolls around getting in the way of the major controls, which is quite annoying and can be very dangerous. No, really, who else provides storage for a banana? Not even a Mercedes-Benz S-class has that!

This MPV really looked respectable at first. But I had to laugh when Mat pointed out that there are 30 storage cubbies, but none of them are really useful for much of anything. 30 tries, and they just couldn't get it right. Mat may not have been trying to be funny there, but he was. You've got your reviewing style Mat. Don't lose it!

The vw sharan looks a lot better, is bigger and will be more reliable. My dads 2 year old Astra has experienced a couple of probs as Vauxhalls build quality isn't great

What spec of car is your Zafira? Cause the S Max you have is top of the range it should be good. I have an Insignia sri i love it amazing car so the better spec car you buy the better the car the better lookin too i think. The S Max is a smart looking car though.

I like this car, it's big and practical, cheap to run but as usual Vauxhall have over-priced. What's the point? Vauxhall is not a premium brand, the build quality is shabby and the only good thing about this particular model is the fact it can get 70+mpg, which for a people carrier is great I think. Maybe throw some more common sense in like storage for the parcel shelf, bigger rear seats and more practical storage then it would be lovely all-rounder.

I wonder what world journalists live in. He gives this a kicking for being basically a 4+3 seater. Think about a normal large family. How likely is it the older two will reach adulthood and still not be driving themselves by the time the others reach adulthood? So in almost all cases this will be plenty while costing less to run and driving better than a lot of other, larger (for the sake of it) people carriers. If you really need to move 7 full sized people all the time most 7 seaters are little or no use. That's when you go for something like a tourneo/caravelle. By the time you get to a 7 seater that takes 7 full sized adults you're knocking on the door of the van based cars running costs anyway and still have half the space. Now imagine if BMW or the hallowed VW/Audi had made it. I bet the praises would be sung from the highest hill.

Zafira is the king of MPVs, its been since the start at 2000. Zafira is the best selling MPV, not to mention that Vauxhall is the top 3 best selling car brands in the UK. Zafira A came third in European car of the year in 2000. Zafira came with FLEX7 seating which modern MPVs copied from Zafira. Zafira A OPC/GSI was the first sports MPV and the fastest, Zafira B VXR is also the fastest. Zafira C is the fastest turbo powered diesel MPV. Fastest Zafira has 611BHP, 'Mad Zaf'. Jeremy Clarkson said the Zafira Tourer is one of his favourite cars.

We just brought one, it's utter shit compared to our S-max, drives exactly the same as the old one, noisy, unrefined, same old engine choice. All they spent the money on is new styling, which i like :) however it looks nowhere near as good as our S-max Titanium X Sport and can't match the quality or practicality. The glove compartment lid has quite literally broken and falls out every time you open the glove box, the cheap build is awful, we are scrapping it soon. The S-max is a much better MPV.

what you on about? Vauxhall are 100x better than Peugeot, Vauxhall were in top 10 most reliable and they sold way better than Peugeots, Vauxhall was also top 3 best selling car brands in the UK. Topgear also said they're the only car manufacturers who do not make ugly cars, Jeremy Clarkson said the Zafira Tourer is one of his favourite cars. Vauxhall had Lotus Carlton which was the fastest sedan in the world, the Zafira A which was first sports MPV and also the fastest MPV, with the fastest Zafira with 611BHP(Mad Zaf), they had the fastest street legal car in the UK which was the Vauxhall Victor(Red Victor 3). Go watch episode of Peugeot on TopGears channel and see 'Peugeot' quality.
