This was a good summary of the whole saga except for a couple of details. The most obvious inaccuracy is in the numbers. 2 billion was looted and 1.5 billion of this was money deposited by municipalities. This has been reported numerous times by different news outlets. So it’s inaccurate to say that more than half of the money was taken from everyday people. Municipalities were the biggest losers and this impacted service delivery. As you mentioned, the Reserve Bank paid back individual depositors up to R100,000. So the poorest of the poor were reimbursed. You made no mention of the auditors involvement, without which this could never have happened. The Reserve Bank would have investigated far sooner, except that they were getting clean audit reports. Lastly, although the 16 million alleged to have been paid to Malema & Shivambu is a large amount, it is a very small part of the 2 billion total. This information is not new and they have not yet been charged. I also read in the DM that Brian Shivambu had paid back 4.5 million. Seems there is still a lot to unravel…
