I am so sick of the battery platform headaches. You can't choose tools that do the best job because you have to worry about the batteries. I have Dewalt, Makita and Milwaukee. Of course everyone has their own battery platform and chargers. Why can't I have one Makita charger to cover all the tools? Why can't I inter swap batteries. I feel you Vince. It's called greed. Companies have figured out the printer model (by the toner or ink and get a free printer). Now it's by the batteries and get a free tool

I’m digging the Craftsman shirt. I’d like to see them continue to innovate and include more brushless options, like a dual bevel, sliding compound miter saw, similar to the Kobalt saw.

I've been waiting for a brushless jigsaw forever. Craftsman V20 Brushless tools are great, but the brushed tools suck monkey balls. I broke down and bought a Milwaukee router (cordless) and jigsaw, so I'm probably done buying Craftsman now. It's a shame, I have tons of tools and 4 9amp batteries, so I've spent a lot on money on Craftsman, but I cant keep waiting forever

@@chadhero37 Absolutely true! (Excellent description, BTW) I began upgrading to Milwaukee last year, but used Craftsman to fill in some of the gaps for items that either didn’t get used as much or that were way out of my price range. They are good tools and might last, but only if you don’t push them too hard, which, from time to time we are all bound to do. After my oscillating tool crapped out 2x...I thought that it might be a sign to go all the way. With the help of this channel and a handful of others, I have scored some amazing deals and have really rounded out my set. I would still love to see Craftsman step up and innovate, but unless Porter Cable had a secret set of plans for a bunch of advanced brushless offerings (since it seems very much like the large launch of the Craftsman line was mainly a repainting and rebranding of the Porter Cable line) I don’t think it’s going to be happening as fast as we’d like to see it.

Perhaps inviting a DeWALT rep. Might make it a lot easier to express these Awesome innovations, 4 acknowledgement. How about this 1. Milwaukee, DeWALT Bosh. & all of the above switch to a universal battery. From 1 to the other. A lot of us have these combination tools. Having minus 3 chargers now makes sense. A little more significant than crying about battery size. I also believe that all manufacturer's will save on costs in the battery bracketing engineering portion of said tools.

Based on my experience with my dad's 18v line up of DeWalt tools, a couple years ago I decided to make my platform the new DeWalt 20v series. This is because DeWalt tools last a lifetime - they really do! My dad farms while I'm more construction oriented and we both have had great success with DeWalt handheld tools of all kinds. Currently I only have the 60v Flex Leaf Blower, which I mainly use for blowing snow from my load out chutes when I sell market hogs in the winter, and I absolutely love it. I 100% love the power and ease of use. So I do wish DeWalt would keep their foot on the pedal and stay ahead of the competition in terms of innovation, because I feel they have a longer lasting and thus, superior product; and therefore can better provide farmers and carpenters the best tools that are needed for their professions. I firmly believe when it comes to almost any job that requires the use of tools, you and your work are only as good as the tools you use. Whether it's Kirby vacuum cleaners or John Deere tractors, the best tool will do the best job. That's my rant.

But you are so right about DeWalt and that's why I don't buy that brand. 21 years ago I had both of my hand operated on and when I went to Makita (at the time) they were the lightest tools on the market with the best selection of tool. Dewalt has stores n certified dealers though some closed b4 pandemic. - grinders, circular/ miter/ table saws, impacts, hammerdrills, chipping gun. Hilti- Chipping-guns n jackhammer, heavy duty demo. Metabo HPT has backwards compatibility plus the option to run 36v DC on batteries or 120v AC with the AC adaptor which is a nice option on the more stationary tools like the table saw and mitter saw plus you can run any of the other 36v tools corded where there is power available to save on batteries and then when you get out of reach of the power cord just pop in a battery
@markwarren515
@markwarren515 3 жыл бұрын
My only complaint with metabo HPT is they don’t have a big enough of a variety. I know they are coming out with more tools on the 36v line and 18v line and both can be run on the same battery but there are other tools that other brands have that would be handy to have but I don’t want to change platforms to get them.

That's what I keep thinking. Do what DeWalt did and convert 40v to 20v. But than they would have to mess around with all the inverter stuff. And DeWalt didn't build all the tools in 60v and 20v because they could kinda use both. That causes a problem because you can't use a 20v battery on a 60v tool. So it's better that Makita didn't make make 40v compatible with 20v The 20v and 18v batteries are all the same voltage. DeWalt 20v marketing is just a scam. It's still 18v

If the stakeholders of the company is roughly the same in all of them, the companies would have incentives to progress in innovation/w limitations as they do, and to halt and let the other companies catch up and progress further. This will make contractors keep switching and updating with no end in sight, and the stakeholders would more or less covertly controll the market. But im sure its not so.

I was flipping back an forth between Milwaukee & DeWalt (both brands are solid). In the end I went with the yellow team because they had the edge with wood working tools. The battery compatible systems of the various manufacturers was not an issue since I had all corded tools prior. DeWalt has a solid edge in this category for mainstream consumers and I think the niche tool market will come around (eventually). You don't have to be the first to cross the finish line for products, you just have to market better than your opponent.

I believe there letting the market speak first. If Milwaukee tools that run that monster battery sells Dewalt will follow with there flex volt tools. But why invest the RD money on a line that might not sell through as good. Somethings just need cords to keep the amps up for the monster motors. But the millions of dollars to engineer and manufacture a new tool isn’t worth it if it won’t sell good. We may think yes it would. But the added cost of having enough batteries to work a while day a cord is way cheaper

You can buy the Amazon choice battery adapter for Dewalt 18 volt tools that will allow you to use the newer batteries for about $10. Don't buy the Dewalt brand, they are about twice the price and harder to take on and off when needed. Most definitely they need to make more tools and stay up with the competition. To think that they were able take the shitty Black n Decker reputation and rebrand it as Dewalt and become one of the top 5 brands in power tool's...

Call out SBD!! They used to push Dewalt. Then they suddenly started buying up other sinking brands. Now the R&D has gone from "Research & Design", and turned into "Rebrand the Design". I'm throwing the idea out there that they can also make 60V only batteries for the tools. That may release the design constraints. DEWALT IS FALLING TOO FAR BEHIND!!! So much potential wasted! same. i'm on the makita platform too. while i do love my tools, and they've never let me down, i'm disappointed at lack of backwards compatibility with their XGT batteries. and they're also lacking in the storage and accessories department, compared to milwaukee. it just seems like milwaukee is constantly expanding their packout line, offering new tools, and their tools are pretty good quality too. idk, maybe makita focuses more on tool durability and refinement, and less on other stuff, but i'd be nice to see them innovate faster and offer a more expansive platform.

DeWalt falling behind like Bosch has but it seems like Bosch's picked up the pieces in a trying to reamp their lineup it won't seems to be getting stale yeah they've released ope tools but when it comes to their power tool lineup they fell short yeah they offer a new hammer drills crazy numbers apparently from what they're saying they coming out with a 15 ah flexvolt battery good for them but they do need to update some of their older offerings at 887 is it smoke machine didn't have the proper cooling technology it's underpowered they need to update that model or just make a whole new model for the top of the line offering of the impact driver same with all the tools

I don't think they want to update the small mitter saw because they already have the 12" 120v max flex monster. I got it a couple of moths back and it's a real monster. I can do all the crown moldings and light rails on a large kitchen and the batteries (6AH came with the kit) only drain around 25%. Mind you these crown moldings are 4" solid hard woods that used to bog down my boss's DeWalt 12" corded mitter.

Why milwaukee did not come out with a power bank for m18 line? Generator is cheaper than the mx. I will buy a m18 power inverter bank if it also charges. I got lots of m18 battery packs already. So why not milwaukee?

Folks who, understandably, dump their old stock to chase the best gear for their business can pass along ALL those grizzled goodies to me. Please, and thank you! 40v will be the new 18v, more efficient, new battery tech (21700 cells finally for makita), more power, more tools will come. it’s up to the consumer if they will keep making 18v or not but I think it will slowly ween its way out and other big companies will start going 36/40v

@@travisjazzbo3490 you do realize the 2.5 amp 40v battery is literally the same size as all the 18v batteries right ? 😂 the tools are literally the same size but 40v obviously you can get more power especially with 21700 cell batteries that 18v line will never provide. As tech advances 12v gets stronger and 40v tools get smaller it puts 18v in a weird spot. Why go 18v when you can get all the same tools more efficient in 40v ????

Heh, Vince just wants them to play their hand early so Milwaukee drops the hammer! In all seriousness, it’s a good valid point Vince. Only thing I can tell you is that, IMO, they have no focus. Haven’t had focus either fir a long time, which is why Milwaukee has, IMO, taken over as #1, and Makita is eating DeWalt’s (and by extension, SBD’s) lunch. They will continue this trend of their until they have someone to unify and drive them again, like a certain competitor’s CEO who used to work for them did before.

So much this. I get asked weekly, heck daily, what my thoughts are on brand "x" and I always sort of hesitate on Dewalt. I go on explaining that they seem to run the widest range of quality to complete junk. Every brand has their failures, but it seems far easier to recommend a newer ryobi offering over a baseline Dewalt offering to the average consumer.

Big problem with DeWalt is Stanley B&D. To many pies not enough thumbs. After the acquisition of Craftsman it seems 60v was just abandoned although that is to strong a word but 60v been out for a very long time and went nowhere. I think it was like a big budget movie that flopped in the box office and now has fallen into cult category. Sadly but that’s what I think the truth is. Tons of money into a radical idea that didn’t generate a huge immediate return and now is going to be “Dreamcasted”

I started with DeWalt in mid 00's (NiCd), switched to Milwaukee for Li-on around 2012 but have been really disappointed with the last few rounds of Milwaukee tools, especially the drills (which are arguably the most used cordless tools) A guy I sometimes work with runs DeWalt and his tools feel and perform much better. That being said, I'm looking into Bosch or Makita for my next tools. They at least own themselves and aren't just a name some Chinese company bought for marketing purposes.

I like Ryobi's stance....they still use the same battery style since their blue tools....you can run their old blue tools on their new lithium batteries....none of the other manufacturers have done that....Dewalt made a half assed attempt for a ridiculous price with a bulky adapter to allow you to run the old 18V XRP stuff using a 20V battery pack, but it was bulky, and some tools didn't work with the adapter because of its bulk...if I recall it was only a small handful of seldom used tools, but still, it was an additional cost to keep running older tools when all they had to do was stick to the same battery style but replace the cells with lithium and people wouldn't have had to buy new tools, new chargers, and new batteries. Ryboi does have 40V and 80V lines, but the majority of the tools most commonly used are 18V...their 80V line is very limited by the looks of it so far just a lawn tractor option LOL....totally pointless line to have....their 40V line isn't much better, there's a few more tools there, but no hand tools in that line, mostly yard/garden tools there. Ryobi I think has the largest selection of tools in their main 18V line and are not as expensive, and a great DIYer and home owner option...although there's a lot of Ryobi tools out on jobsites, because they get the job done...that's all you need, a tool that does the job. The problem seems to be quite common across most brands....new versions come out, and along with that you end up having to buy different batteries/chargers. Dewalt has fallen behind the curve with a lot of their tools in quality and performance...still playing on the brand name and building tools that don't stack up against the competition and some of the competition is a lot cheaper, better built, and higher performance. Their prices are ridiculous anymore on batteries and bare tools....several other colors out there to choose from with better specs and less out of pocket cost. I'm not very knowledgeable on the Milwaukee line of tools, or Makita...I've only had a couple of Makita 18V tools over the years and no longer have them, but they worked fine...Milwaukee is kind of like Dewalt, you pay for the brand name and not much else in the way of performance that justifies the exuberant prices LOL.... There's nothing wrong with any of the brands overall as far as operation, some are just better than others, and many just buy based on what batteries and chargers they already have, which is understandable to a point...but I have a few different platforms, as it makes shopping for a tool easier, you aren't just limited to that one brand because you have a battery/charger for it....if a tool is on sale that you need in a certain color, you can grab it and not have to pay more because you don't have that platform. I've used pretty much all the brands over the years and for a long time I had mostly Dewalt....not anymore....I have a conglomeration of different brands based on what was available or on sale when I needed them, and it opened my tool options up by having multiple battery/charger platforms. The only Dewalt stuff I have now is the 60V Attachment Capable of weed eater, and the 60V 18" chainsaw....both work great, but the batteries are ridiculously expensive for no more than what it is. Each brand keeps coming out with larger and larger batteries...but apparently never have used their tools with those enormous batteries hanging off them...makes them more cumbersome than just carrying 2 batteries instead of one heavy bulky one....try throwing that 12ah battery on a hammer drill and then using that thing over your head all day long for example....makes no sense at all. A 4-5ah battery is plenty for most tasks, if not, carry a 2nd battery....with the charging technology today it don't take very long to charge most of these smaller batteries, so by the time its charged you are ready to swap batteries...I try to keep 3-4 batteries ready so when I'm working on a project I usually have 2 batteries charged or on the charger while I'm using the other 2....typically I'm using a drill and a impact, or a drill and a saw...so I have a 2nd battery ready to go and that keeps me going on whatever I'm working on. Those larger AH batteries would make sense in like the table saw or miter saw, or something of that nature but not a tool you are having to lug around all day LOL.

I've been dewalt all the way. I spend way more money on tools than I need to, but they're grownup toys to me. Plus I like being able to do projects on my own, and as an electrician I preferred dewalts impact, and then I was just stuck on the platform and stayed with them when I bought my first battery powered portable band saw. It was ok, but so much bulkier than Milwaukee. They finally released their atomic portaband,, which I promptly snagged. But they've been starting to be more of a pain in the A$$ with their warranty. I had a service center deny me my leaf blower because it was past the 1 year and into the 2nd year of its 3 year, and that was the final straw. I recently just invested in the dewalt battery nail guns, and after this and, frankly, after realizing they are STILL using the dusty flywheel design, I went with Milwaukee and I love it, and my tool people tell me that Milwaukee is night and day better than dewalt for warranty. Thanks for reading if you did, and definitely up for some feedback/similar experiences! 🙏🏻

Another Great one Vince👍👍👍 Im definitely picking up on what your subtly hinting at but not sure if Dewalt will pick up on it🤣 I personally wonder if it has to do with Dewalts customer base. I mean a lot of Dewalt peeps are professionals with a thrifty mind set I feel. Wonder if Dewalt fears being able to get the margins needed to succeed at some of the higher cost equipment and tools. That would be my guess anyway. As a Dewalt guy Ill pay Dewalt prices and get the good tools although they might not be the best because I just cant justify to outfitting myself with Makita or Milwaukee as there wouldnt be much left to live on after shelling out for blue or red. No shade on those that can afford the top of the line as there are some awesome tools out there from Makita and Milwuakee for sure. But for many the cost of outfitting in those brands is just not feasible. And I feel thats where Dewalt hits the sweet spot for many.
