@@duke135056 np just trying to save your videoheads they are not as easy to source, my machines i always have a spare transport for parts all my svhs machines have spare head drums for example a jvc hrs-4800u uses the same drum as the jvc hrs-dvs3u but the dvs 3u has much better features like tbc and digipure and a minidv deck

GREAT BELT TIP ! : If you want you can simply cut out about 1/2" of belt , cutting diagonally down on the wide part of belt, then using super glue orig (not gel), simply spllce the belt back together and presto, you got a belt that if you try to break it will break in another place, thats how good the splice is with orig super glue. Save you time threading and finding correct belt. (do not cut belt flat on table , instead make diagonal cut down the long way so that when you splice it back it will overlap enough to make a good grip.

I couldn't get my JVC HR-s800u apart enough to even see the main drive belt. Clean head, demagnitize erase head, helps alot. Straight in straight out on demag tool, or you can actually make it more magnetic, (bad) just a second per , do it 3 x. . yes light touch main head, that ferrous oxide on tapes, accumulates on all the heads in their. do it same for record head, erase head, and any other thing that actually touches the tape. DO NOT USE silicone lube as it welds plastic parts together. ... argh..

Very interesting thank you. I just found some old home movies, and found that 1 of our VHS players will not play anything, so maybe it's belt snapped...

This was great. I'm having a problem with my vcr where it plays the tapes but then only half ejects and then the machine gets stuck in a loop. I looked at the belt underneath and it doesn't seem to be there problem. I've looked at the mechanism and I can't figure it out. I'll keep looking but I've had a hard time with people with the same problem. Cheers

In this video about 1:20 into it. Check that gear that drives the eject plate. While working on this one; it was loose enough and the gear jumped one "cog" out of time. Same thing; the tape would NOT fully eject. Jumped the gear back one cog and then it was fine. Kinda of like a clock; the gear timing on these things are crucial to working properly.

Hi I have a JVC HR-S860 SVHS VCR when a tape is inserted it powers off and ejects the tape, and at times if a tape is inserted it reminds a tape even if the REW button has not been pressed, could the issue be with the belt, or could it be the mode switch etc. Also the power board has a 250V/T2AL slowblow fuse and the fuse makes noises, could the fuse be faulty or could it be the power board maybe faulty etc. Please reply.
@duke135056
@duke135056 4 жыл бұрын
The fuse makes noises?????? What like a buzzy sound? could be the transformer or capacitor on the power supply making them noises. The tape rewinds itself even when you DO NOT push rewind button??? WHAT??? I can't hep you; your VCR needs an exorcist!!!!! LOL... seriously I think this is beyond my capabilities to answer. I am NOT a professional repairman. I just "dabble" with this stuff; in my spare time; and I am sometimes handy and get lucky when it comes to fixing things. You may have to consult with someone with more experience then me.

I use "Lithium" grease; available at any local hardware store; Wal-mart; ect. and only use just a tiny little bit. A little dab will do!!!! Just enough so the gears and stuff move smoothly with no friction. @@duke135056 Great video, I have a VCR that's eating tapes and it looks like the belt isn't strong enough to push the levers forward, I'm assuming.

Every VCR is a little different. Some are belt drive and some are gear driven. And some (like the one in this video) are a combination of both. Belts due to the age of these dinosaurs will need replacing at some point and gears need to be lubricated and make sure no teeth are missing on the gears. Plastic gets old and brittle over time too. I've also seen gears slip on shafts too; or a gear can jump a tooth and throw the timing off. This happened to the eject gear on the side of this one while I was working on it; because everything was loose from taking it apart; jumped one tooth off and would not eject all the way; jumped it back one tooth then it worked fine. I'm no expert on these things; just handy and I get lucky sometimes. Study it and use a tape you don't care about and watch as it moves to see what is not moving right????

@@duke135056 December 1996 is one of the earliest pressings on this chassis. And yes, this Optimus is a rebadged panasonic. Even the previous chassis before this one was this brand as well as RCA, GE. Quasar, and a few others?
@duke135056
@duke135056 4 жыл бұрын
Radioshack did that with a lot of there products. I have a Optimus dual cassette tape deck too and someone told me it looked just like a Panasonic too. So optimus must have had some kinda of partnership deal going on back then. Kinda of like Chevy/GMC. Same truck with two different name badges but they are the same truck.

my vcr has coax output but no av output do you have any ideas?
@duke135056
@duke135056 3 жыл бұрын
Most VCR's had at least one video (yellow) and one audio (white) RCA output jacks; unless you got a real cheap just a player no recording; like cheap little kids type toy player made really cheaply. Even the older VCR's had RCA jacks. BUT there were some commercial grade VCR's that did use a whats called a BNC plug for the video instead of RCA Maybe that's what your talking about? (audio should still be standard RCA). You can buy adapters to convert BNC to RCA. Link: www.amazon.com/bnc-rca-adapter/s?k=bnc+to+rca+adapter Otherwise you can still connect to a modern tv. They still have coax input for antennas. Hook it up and manually scan in ANALOG (NOT DIGITAL) channel 3 or 4 depending on what channel the little output switch is set to on the back of the VCR next too the coax output is.

when do I need to replace capacitors?
@duke135056
@duke135056 19 күн бұрын
Depends; If any are bulging or leaking then you need to immediately. Also depends on the brand name; if there good quality or the cheaper brand. If everything seems to be working fine and there no bulging or leaking usually I don't worry about it. You could remove one or two and do a random capacitance test on them and see if there still within spec.
@marcfizer5101
@marcfizer5101 5 жыл бұрын
I bet the electrolytic capacitors dried up in your non-functioning VCRs. If you feel adventuresome, get replacement capacitors and solder them in. Replace all of them. It may be a hassle, but it may get that really nice one back up and running again

I know; I "ooffed up" I should just take this video down and make new one. I did leave a warning in the video description; BUT nobody seems to read that...LOL. Your not the only one that has said "I did a BAD THING"!!!! I think I have been lucky cause this vcr still plays just fine??? BUT I also DO NOT CLEAN THEM THIS WAY ANYMORE!!!! I use a cleaning cassette tape; 90% (or higher) isopropyl alcohol; and paper only to clean heads now.
