Vecna is ALMOST a perfect Killer...! | Dead by Daylight PTB

This is our first proper showcase of the new Killer on the PTB "The Lich", better known as Vecna from Dungeons & Dragons. Since the PTB had very slow matchmaking, we played with some friends in a custom match and tried our best to showcase his strengths (and also some of his weaknesses). Overall, I think that he'll be a very decent Killer if they buff him a tiny bit!

3:23-3:24 Another Thing i just noticed, is that if you hit Survivors with the Sphere, for as long as they are affected, you see what Item they have. For Example, the adam has Gauntlets that reveal you while flying

That's a good tip, so it actually makes sense to hit downed survivor and try to hit some gens too. Just to check what spells you shouldn't use against them. But this just adds difficulty of this killer and make it even harder to track everything. Survivors are also free to change their items, so not really reliable information.

Flight of the Dammed has a hitbox so small that you can miss even if you shot it at a survivor vaulting; Dispelling Sphere takes a long time to check a gen and its useless in a chase (unless you have a certain addon or the survivor has a magical item); Pallet blocking with Mage Hand lasts for 4 seconds which is not enough time for most loops (also due to the massive slowdown you get after casting it); Picking up a pallet with Mage Hand the moment the survivor drops it, almost always guarantees a hit (so I prefer doing this rather than blocking the pallet); Fly is good for map traversal and chasing (in my opinion its his strongest spell); According to the DBD Wiki, each spell has a 50 second cooldown and the slowdown you get after casting one lasts for 2 seconds (2.5 seconds for Fly); My suggestions for a buff would be at least one of the following : Increasing the horizontal hitbox of the Flight of the Dammed; Having the "Glass eye" addon be base-kit; Reducing the duration you get slowdown to 1.5 seconds (2.5 seconds for Fly);

i absolutely love how he feels like you can play him how you want. like.. alot of abilities and strats are very samey but he gives you alot of options. and having to ration your abilities, you can fly and then block a pallete, hit them and then snipe them with skeletons but now you barely have any abilities for a while. or you can ration them but risk longer chases. small things like that makes it very fun to think as a killer.

addendum: my favourite thing about dbd is when killers feel like a boss fight. thats why i like blight and wesker. its a juking game. i love fighting them. same goes for demogorgon and plenty more, but honestly this is the most "boss" type of killer. predictable projectile that you can dodge but can be used smartly, the pallet hand slowing you honestly is kinda nice, the orb being dodgable, and the flight being like if you escape a boss fight, those bosses tend to quickly speed up to catch up to keep fighting. fighting against and as him has been a blast so far.

This is still one of the best designed killers bhvr has released in a while. He is a well rounded jack of all trades killer with 3 of his abilities allowing for more interesting chase dynamics that still have significant room for counter play. While the killer still introduces side objectives for the survivors, they aren’t necessary, they don’t nullify the killers power, and they mainly add new and fun ways to engage with the killer, encouraging survivors to have fun with the match rather than gen rush through it. Ultimately, if bhvr relaxes some of the cooldowns and slowdowns this killer could become a beloved addition to the game.

@@theurbanreanimator7244 No they aren't being "over-dramatic". The magic items literally dismantle him as a killer. The mage hand enchantment give you aura reading on the pallet *and* haste. The one for dispelling sphere allow you to see it, which defeats the purpose of the spell. The flying one shows you his aura during flight and afterwards. The skeleton enchantment shows you the skeletons' aura, making them even easier to dodge than they already are. They don't "disable the killer's power" but they may as well. The only saving grace is that survivors can only hold two at a time. You also forgot about the eye and hand of Vecna which basically give survivors a 5th perk. Yeah, the items are totally well balanced and won't be aggravating to deal with at all.

Been playing him for awhile now and I completely agree. He feels somewhat clunky and sluggish which discourages using his spells somewhat and just play him as a normal m1. I found that chaining his spells for the best value you can get while keeping the slowdown minimal. Overall though even if they don't buff him as it stand he is my next main for sure. Although as a Billy main he does feel a bit sluggish and clunky :c hopefully he flows better but he is very cool Also, it's unfortunate you start the match without your power for a bit meanwhile by the time you do get it the survivors who spawned next to chests can already see your aura(and get haste for free) by the time you use it for the first time

I guess BHVR thinks that, compared to the Artist's crows, this power is OP, but you can also just try to stand between 2 skeletons and avoid the hit... no need to have 2 ways of avoiding it, because then the Killer will think twice before using a power that they know is more likely to miss, so what's the point? I think the idea of them isn’t to be a zoning tool like artist’s crows which would just make the game more boring, but to add something dynamic to looping. It’s kind of like how you have to crouch in Skull Merchant’s drone radius. It’s designed to slow you down slightly while in the loop which could be enough, especially with powers like the hand, to catch up and get a hit.

Personally feel they need to either speed up his recovery or remove the slowdown when he uses a spell and either make his skeletons wider or launch faster. Flying over pallets and vaults should reduce the duration by an amount instead of just flat out canceling the power, and the recharge shouldn't be set to 0 when he ends his flight.

In addition to the hand being completely useless whenever the loop is slightly longer than the one in the RPD safe room, survivors can also get boots out of the chests that give them 7% haste for a few seconds whenever the hand is used, making it even more useless.

For me personally, The Unknown’s power being messy and confusing is fitting.The projectile being a hallucinogen and the clones being called “Hallucinations” build upon the idea that The Unknown doesn’t exist alongside government conspiracies of an unknown compound. The projectile having a radius and bounce physics alongside the aspect of teleportation reflect the “out of nowhere” nature of Unknown attacks. The parasite reflects theories of being an alien or otherworldly being. Even the infection mechanic being called “Weakened” is extremely vague in nature. Hell, Unknown’s power being a sort of amalgamation of the tropes of other killer powers befits the multiple theories that people fear about it. Of course, this is subjective and you can still argue The Unknown is iterative on a game design front, but The Unknown’s power does fit the character in my eyes upon further inspection. I think that using flight as a way to start a body block like you would with wraith is gonna be a big part of using him. That in combo with the hand looks like it can give you a big headstart for chases.

Yeah, except Wraith can decloak and get a hit faster than Vecna can even land. Flight is pure traversal, it has too many drawbacks to be used offensively. And the hand's massive slowdown makes it pointless against anything except god pallets.

Glad you picked up on Mage Hand being good if you pick up a pallet as they drop it. One thing however you didn't include is how useful Flight is at creating a lose lose if you time it right as a survivor approaches a vault. They can crouch to duck it , yeah, sure, whatever, but if you're close enough you can M1 them anyway. Additionally, Sphere is great with Flight, because you can send a sphere at one gen, and Flight to a different one. You're checking two gens at the same time. This is great with perks like Discordance.

My personal opinion: -remove the slowdown given when using the power that picks up/blocks pallets. -make the big orb quieter, and cause exhaustion basekit -make the skeletons you send out lower by default and rework the other addon -make the flight faster and last longer, and not end when flying over a vault location -last but not least, reduce the cooldown for each spell by 5 seconds. This way, Vecna would actually be a threatening killer that requires more than just "crouch tech" and "hold w" as a counter.

The cooldowns on the powers need like 15-second cooldown reduction, not 5. That's like patching a bandaid to a stab wound. Does virtually nothing. The slowdown on using the abilities also need to go. There literally no reason that a chase spell should hinder you when trying to use it in chase. Otherwise, pretty decent list of changes.

Skull ability is very obviously not meant to act as a simple damage ability. Its a "do this or else you get damaged" sort if ability. Main use is not meant to damage. Its a punish (like how you hold hatchet at window to force a disengage)

The only thing I don't agree is with the Flying cooldown, I think it's okay, shouldn't be used to chase and hit immediately, just to travel the map fast. With the ball you can watch a 3/4 gen and the other 2 powers can be used to negate loops and those I agree just have a little tweak but maybe when one gets used to it they can be used better. I had the same opinions going against him. But a good change could be to obviously just slight buff cooldowns and durations and small things like that but I think for addons, they can keep them as they are but just revert changes on some of the other powers since he already feels nerfed. Like if you use both the flight addons to make it significantly better, then the hand becomes slower and lasts about as much as it does now.

I think to balance the skeletons they could give a slight slow/exhaust to the survivor if it barely missed them, so even if they crouch under it, as long as you aimed it well you still get some value out of it.

@@Ocktay Freddy has ok antiloop with his snares, his fake pallets are bad tho. He also has mobility with gen tp. He does lack info, but vecnas info is pretty useless. Let me just explain why all four of his spells suck. Flight: massive cool down, can't hit fast after, doesn't last long, ends the moment you pass a vault, hard to control. Skeletons: massive cool down, easy to dodge, can be crouched under. Sphere: massive cool down, slows you when you use it, is super slow itself. The hand: massive cool down, slows you, doesn't last long enough to do anything most of the time (can't even stop a pallet save). On top of this, the survivors get magic items that range from slightly helpful to utterly chase winning. He's really quite incredibly bad.

This character looks really good. Personally I would make the skelly attack lasser-like, takes a second before they move, but the hitbox affects the entire length when active. Or making so every time you use an hability, the rest of speels loose 1 second of cooldown. Making all addons afecting a spell also reduce 1 sec from that spells cooldown. Or making that a 5 secons reduction instead, but all other spells take 2 sec more (saves 5 secs but increases 6 secs, making it a 1 more sec overall). That way it would feel more like you are building a class.

I found myself getting a surprising amount of hits with the skeletons, especially after watching your vids/stream. I think what I do different is instead of trying to get the free hits, I use it more as a zoning tool or a surprise attack. Using it as a free block to a pallet/window is incredibly effective against strong players and placing it early will get the people not looking back. I also used it through walls; this is where I got the most hits. If a survivor went around a corner, I’d bring up the skeletons and shoot a blast through the wall hoping to catch them. They won’t have time to react so it’s like shooting a random judgement shot with Pyramid Head but with larger spread/higher likelihood to hit.

Otz, what are your thoughts on making fly cooldown faster when other powers are on cooldown? It would make fly more useful the more you chase, as using mage hand or flight of the damned outside of chase just to reduce the cooldown is very wasteful. It would also help with Vecna's downtime, as you could pressure gens or go for another chase with the reduced cooldown of fly, of course with the downside of having your other powers on cooldown. Maybe 1x cooldown rate for all powers up, 1.15x for one power down, 1.33x for two down, and 1.6x for all three down

I feel like his damaging ability should have a pattern where you should only be able to crouch at some places like a grid, makes it more interactive to dodge. The skeletons could have weapons on their hands that makes a W shape downwards. The projectile should then have artist crow terrain collision where it follows stairs up and down. Would make some crazy scenarios where you put it up shack stairs during a basement save and all survivor have to fit in the same hole

i think its best to use the skeletons as a shotgun kinda tool, aswell as using them as an extension for when survivors are stuck in an animation, like with nemesis, xeno, huntress etc. if you can predict that they will likely vault a window, you can ready up your skeleton, and even if they run past it, you can still shoot it out and they will have to crouch or get in between to not get hit, which on mid range is more difficult.
