I 'Like' tape. It is cheaper per TB even when costs of the drives and libraries are figured in, Using IBM 3592 media, over the last 9 years I have had 4 tape failures every other month I have a disk failure, so tapes are not only cheaper but more reliable. Also, no single admin can erase the contents of tapes with a single command;whereas, we discovered yesterday the single button to erase all information on a Cleversafe disk device. So tape is cheaper, more reliable, and safe from malicious administrators. Can you access information on tape as fast as disk, NO. There is the trade off,

Interesting how none of what you posted 3 years ago is true today except for the wiping part. I wouldn't have agreed with you 3 years ago, but you have your own preferences and I respect that. Heck, disk was less than 10 cents per GB three years ago. I realize tape media is less than that, but the drives were and are crazy expensive. I like the disk is rapidly verifiable and restoring from disk is orders of magnitude faster. I've never lost a disk on my backup NAS before. Reliability for spinning disk is unquestionable by today's standards especially in redundant systems.
