Tim Burton's Joker and Penguin essentially traded henchmen. The Joker had gangsters, and the Penguin had circus freaks.

Heath did a great job no doubt but when we look at who the joker was in the comics- his version is actually one of the furthest from it. Jack had it down to a T. People like to say “Jacks version was goofy, he was dancing and listening to Prince” HELLO HE IS THE JOKER! His whole thing is about being goofy. An unhinged criminal that will do bad things but he will make light hearted of that bad situation because everything is a joke to him. People also say “I don’t see the joker falling in love with a reporter” personally I actually don’t think he ever truly fell in love with Vicky. I think it was sort of just a way to draw Batman closer so Joker could try to take him out. I mean in the original Script Joker Kills Vicky at the top of the church. Doesn’t sound like he was genuinely in love to me 🤷🏻♂️

Youre wrong on this one Vee. He saw Vickie as an accessory to be taken. Sure it's of a different time where men threw themselves at women to prove their love but this is obsession with a person he's never even met. Joker tricks her into thinking she was meeting Burce, then kills a museum full of people to get some one on one time with her. Also, keep in mind, this is Jokers first introduction to Batman. They had yet to build that relationship.

His point is that it's odd for Joker to show any degree of actual interest in someone, even if it's possessive obsession.
@EldonCult3 ай бұрын
@@Shift_Salt I heard what Vee said. Isn't the crux of all of his schemes to have that same level of obsession? Take the laughing fish as an example. He was equally obsessed with putting his face on a bunch of fish as he was at taking possession of Vickie in the movie.

Sorry Vee, but Batman didn’t kill the Joker. What he did was wrap a cable around the Joker and a Gargoyle to stop him from escaping, but it was the Joker that killed the Joker. He clearly sees what happened and doesn’t stop trying to escape via the helicopter causing the Gargoyle to break and pull him to his death. So while Batman is at best an accomplice to this death, it’s the Joker and his inability to accept a defeat that kills him.

The issue is that there are two Jokers in the comics. This is closer to the original version, and Heath Ledger is closer to the newer version. I personally prefer the older one. He's more socially adept and definitely not into chaos for chaos sake. Everything would be meticulously planned, hence his name. A joker is someone who plans gags and pranks. The problem being that what he finds funny is sadism. He is the class clown. This Joker is also one of the few that could realistically have henchmen. Just think of how much fun he could be to work with assuming he didn't murder you. He gets you in on his charisma, and keeps you near with sheer terror. Heath Ledger on the other hand is the Frank Miller Joker. Darker, less funny. He doesn't smile as much, doesn't actually make jokes. I don't see how he even gets henchmen other than maybe the delusional guy in the jail scene. I don't see him as capable of tricking people or planning things. They try claiming he could, but I have trouble believing the scenarios as they never show him having enough stability to pull the stuff off. That always bugged me about the Dark Knight, that the Joker had grandiose plans, but his main defining character trait was chaos. I just can't picture him getting into a hospital to set up bombs without getting shot by the police. I can't picture him planting bombs anywhere without getting shot by police. He is too unhinged in my opinion to be the Joker. Heath is entertaining, yes, but not realistic. Jack Nicholson, on the other hand, played the Joker as conniving, charismatic, highly intelligent, highly educated, and a great liar. I totally feel like he has the ability to pull off everyone he did. He knew psychology, and was very cynical. He knew how to hold back when necessary because he had plans. He also, most importantly, had access to resources and infrastructure to enact his plans. I believe a highly educated genius controlling the mob could poison beauty supplies, hack television signals, break into a museum, buy parade balloons, get a float made, buy poison gas, gas masks, etc. That's why Jack will always be the most realistic Joker as far as I'm concerned. I do agree with your penguin point, even if I enjoyed Devito's penguin. I prefer the version in Batman the Animated series. Devito is definitely not the Penguin, he's just a delight to watch because he's Danny Devito playing a Danny Devito character. He's wildly unrealistic, but fun.

Hot take, and I mean no disrespect to the man’s legacy. But I honestly preferred Jack Nicholson’s Joker over Heath Ledger, not saying he’s bad by any means. Joker isn’t in love, though. Even as Jack Napier, look at how he treated Alicia & what he eventually did to her. Joker laid out his intentions to Vicki at the museum: have her photograph & document his murder spree after he gives her an artistic makeover a la Alicia.
@Shift_Salt3 ай бұрын
It's not necessarily about showing love, just the idea of Joker planning schemes specifically around someone other than Batman which feels odd. Joker is obsessive over one person, and that person is rarely any random dame. It feels Ill fitting fitting for the joker to pursue someone like that even if it is in a creepy and toxic obsessive manner because he doesn't usually care about anyone or anything beyond causing chaos for his own amusement.
@jihadx53073 ай бұрын
@@Shift_Salt Joker has planned multiple schemes & had many storylines that haven’t included Batman or even factored him in across comics, animation & film. Also, the main person Joker is obsessed with is himself & his sick desires. Therefore, this interpretation isn’t off the mark, whatsoever.

“I make art…until someone dies” as he put it. Joker is obsessive and insane so it isn’t out of the ballpark that he would fixate on her in the beginning But had he of lived, I think it would have come to light that he went after her more and more frequently because it got the attention of The Batman
@1977TA2 ай бұрын
Correct, he was definitely only interested in recruiting Vicki to do his bidding and when he no longer had use for her, he would have killed her. There is no doubt in my mind he pushed Alicia out the window to her death. She was the reason his boss betrayed him. I think that incident caused him to develop a hatred of women. This theory makes sense however, Joker's motivation for pursuing Vicki can be a bit confusing because he appears to be in love with her and acts like an obsessed stalker who won't take no for an answer. Was he using Vicki or was he in love with her? I don't think we'll ever know for sure.
