Alright, so the comparison has been made more than enough. This video does have some similar takes to one made by Jessie Tribble's. If you haven't seen his video, I highly suggest checking it out. He made some excellent points--- some of which I never even thought of. I did not see Jessie's video or know of his channel before my comment section made the comparison. I have since watched and even subscribed to him. I did not copy his video... upon watching the two you can see we don't see eye to eye on everything. A lot of work goes into these videos... so being "called out" for "ripping (Jessie) off" is kind of a slap in the face after rewatching the show's last 4 seasons, taking notes, scripting the video, recording audio, and then finally editing this together for 4 days. I would not copy another creator's work--- I try to bring my own perspective and shitty jokes to everything I create.

They doubled down on the Pam-Jim fiasco. They must have had a lot of fan mail hate, because in the finale, Pam is questioned by all the women in the audience at why she would be such a horrible wife to a perfect husband like Jim. It’s because Dwight genuinely liked Michael and despite Michael being ignorant a lot of the time you could see that Michael too liked Dwight. Also Dwight was meant to not really understand people which he still didn’t really know when he was finding Michael annoying
@michaelahurt2 жыл бұрын
I think the relationship is a red herring. Obviously people will prefer one or the other but I think it's more about the character. Dwight did more than smarten up -- he became a entirely different person. People become guarded, deliberate, bitter -- all that is fine -- but how often have you seen an adult who couldn't read basic social cues turn themselves into a person who could manipulate others? The very fact that you're socially inept precludes you from even knowing that it's a problem to fix. It's just not realistic. For a lot of people it breaks the suspension of disbelief. @tik5150_4 жыл бұрын
I don't think Cathy and Brian were meant to be "storylines" because instead they simply represented tension or conflict in the overall storyline of Jim and Pam's relationship. We lost the ability to root for Jim and Pam getting together after they became married, so it makes sense if the writers wanted to bring some of that feeling back in the final season. It was like the writers saying "Remember how emotionally invested you became in the relationship between these two characters? Remember how that used to be a major part of our show's appeal?" So they set up some conflict (Cathy, Brian, Jim's new job, etc.), then later give us the payoff (Jim and Pam's dedication to each other, reminding the audience why we become so emotionally invested in them in the first place).

@thereverseeffect72694 жыл бұрын
I don't know. On one hand I think the derailment of Jamie Lannister was worse. I mean they made a genuinely hated by all character into a fan favourite due to the way they progressed his character, gave him a major redemption arc, and then shattered it by bringing him back to Cercsi in the end anyways. However, the decline of Andrew Bernard's character was done over multiple episodes and was in my opinion like slowly ripping off a bandaid, while Jamie's was like just getting kicked in the face and your jaw broken, if that makes sense.... To be fair though, I never liked Andy to begin with, so maybe that's why I don't hate his as much

Here’s my overall consensus for the office Season 1: tried to be to much like uk version and didn’t have its own identity. Season 2: the show finds its identity and has classic episodes. Seasons 3-7: consistent a tone of just rewatch able goodness. Season 8: still hanging on to the magic and isn’t horrible but still isn’t anything like the seasons before it. Season 9: completely lost the magic and just sucked ass but thank god the finale of the series out everything back together and ended things well. So yeah even though I hate season 9 it’s still my favorite tv show ever.

I know that the pam jim storyline in the last season was weird, but i feel like they did it because even from the start of the show, jim was wanting something more than being a regional salesman for a mid range paper company. and the reason they did that was to show that even the most perfect relationships face struggles every now and then. they showed that struggle to make their relationship even stronger. to show their loyalty. and otherwise, two of the four main characters wouldn't have any drama.

I think the show had three stages of decline. First was right after the Michael Scott Paper Company ark came to a close. This is when things started going downhill. Once Saber came in, it accelerated the decline. Then Michael leaving was then nail in the coffin. Things like Pam becoming a salesman and the entrance of Erin seemed odd. I think the biggest loss of the later seasons was Dwight loosing his devotion for Micheal. They had such a funny yet genuine chemistry that once it was over, made Dwight just seem mean. I can't say anything about the last two seasons, since I've only watched them once, over a year ago. The way i see it is that in season eight the overall quality of the show decreased solely because of michael leaving, and none of the other characters decreased in quality. But in season nine, the overall quality of the show decreased, AND the quality of the characters decreased.
@gbrow16044 жыл бұрын
I completely disagree, I think the overall quality of the show started declining in season 6, and by season 8 it was terrible.

I'll say it. Nellie negatively impacted the show. That's a bad character, that helped Andy become a worse character.

It was fairly safisfying to watch how Andy treated her when he got back as manager. He literally owned her and I enjoyed every bit of it.

I stop binge watching when Michael leaves. For me the show ends there, and there rest is a absolutely waste of time. I genuely dislike everything after Michael. The romances, the bosses. They ruined Dwight mytical figure and his surroundings, showing his family.

He could have worked in a different show or even as a reacuring character in the office. The problem is that the writers gave him way too much attention and he ruined the dynamic of the office.

The Office never died because even when it was bad, it was still better than the majority of other comedies. Season 8 is a difficult watch because Andy is written as a bad version of Michael Scott, however, Robert California is a true gem and the Florida arc is actually a highlight of the entire series run. Season 9 is a lowest point for me. There was mileage to be had for Jim suddenly deciding he wanted more from his work and Pam wanting everything to stay the same. Jim had never really saw himself staying at DM for most of his career and only stuck around for Pam. Then they got married, had a couple of kids... you can totally buy that once those stopped being these massive things in his life, he would take a look around and be motivated to get a better job. But the way it was written was fairly terrible, for example, Jim, the guy who is chronically non-confrontational, blows up at Pam over the phone, making her cry... it didn't ring true for either of the characters and felt absolutely forced. My biggest criticism of the show (which I absolutely 100% love, by the way) is that it leaned in to the framing concept of it being a documentary too much. It meant that characters would disappear (Cathy is the biggest example here) and storylines would just end (like Jan / Michael after "Dinner Party") because if those characters weren't involved in the Office, they weren't in the show. Parks and Recreation started with the same fly-on-the-wall documentary style but leans out of that concept, using it purely as a style rather than making it a fundamental part of the show. I do have one criticism of your video: I don't agree with your view on Michael/Dwight. Dwight absolutely worships Michael in the beginning but you can see their relationship breakdown. Its written into the show, coming to a head when Michael doesn't recommend Dwight for his job. That's when Dwight goes from seeing them as genuine friends to looking down on Michael for "not having any land". Still, great video.

“Michael Scott is not someone who you would invite over for dinner to meet your family, but he’s not someone you’d cut entirely out of your life either” This is why I love Vee, best description I’ve ever heard of Michael Scott

Whenever I rewatch, I watch until Goodbye Michael, then skip ahead to the last few eps of the show. I wish Deangelo never happened, and that the ending how they had it was pushed forward (minus evil Andy) I kinda wish the whole Jim athlead thing was condensed into a few episodes instead of a long time bc it ruined their relationship. I wish that they had the Michael finale, last 3 eps like they did in season 9, and finished out the show on a high note.

I think im the only one that liked jim and pam having problems. But I liked it bc of the result. Personally, I fell in love with them. It was what hooked me to the show. So after they got married it felt stale. But then this happened and I was really invested. And boy, when they hugged and said "I love you" at the same tine, dude, I started crying like never before. And no show has ever made me feel that. So I appreciate that arc.

For me, having Jim and Pam have marital problems is a good closing arc for them, a way of showing they can withstand anything (even if this was set up in Season 6 with the divorce of Pam’s parents). But it just drags on for far too long. The climax for me should have been their phone argument. Pam should have NEVER doubted that Jim loved her and NEVER indulged in a guy she barely knows. That took it too far. The arc should have ended a lot sooner, similar to the Leslie and Ron feud towards the end of Parks and Rec.

I think The Office died when Andy became the boss, I still there are some good episodes (Garden Party is one of my top 5 episodes) but I think overall season 8 and 9 were poorly written. I still think the last episode is really good.

my general stance is that if your show has been a feel-good tv show through all the seasons, you don't really need to make it realistic in the last season.
