This. I was there, at my local arcade, the first time someone threw a fireball. Everyone was blown away, asking "what button was that!" "how did you do that!" because no one knew there were special moves. Then someone did another move. Then someone made Blanka electrocute someone. These things were not even imaginable in early gaming, and it made the game come alive to us in a way that few other games have since. Just a week later, we started seeing some regulars that had been playing continually and started to pull of combos. That's Jake, he plays Guile. That's Marco, he plays Ken and Ryu. As the line of people behind the cabinet lined up, these top players would cycle through challenge after challenge, as people lined up and lost quarters trying to beat them. Then two top players would eventually be up at the cabinet, and the crowd around them became insane. These arcade days of gaming will never have an equal in modern times. Key here was that for a long time, you just couldn't play these games at home or on PC. The Arcade was where they came out first, and the only place to see them. And to add to the atmosphere, the arcade machines always had the sound UP. SF2's music was intense and perfect for each stage. Hearing the elephants trumpet on Dhalsim's stage was epic.

Everything about Vega represents beauty. His country and its language, his stage, his fighting style, himself, and especially his music. These devs went well out of their way to bring the diverse cultures that the fighters come from into the game. SF2 is a legend. Vega and Ken's themes will always be my favorites. Interestingly enough, I also happen to be an American with strong Spanish lineages. The flamenco guitar and dance that inspired Vega's theme hits me hard. This normally takes two guitars, and the fact that this musician was able to play both parts is amazing 👏
