We go for vegan food in Seoul. It's really quite good! NOTE: this location has since moved but the name of the restaurant represents a vegan chain in Korea! If you google it, you can find all the locations available in Seoul! :D

Also, it's not like they were taking their picture because they were famous (that's what I'm assuming), they took it because they were foreigners. Asians tend to have that problem when they have non-Asians visiting their country, and it is rude.

Loving Hut is basically the McDonald of the vegan restaurant world.

***** restaurant level vegetarian food have a lot of processed stuff, such as imitation meat. High level, better, vegetarian restaurants will either not use those, or make their own from scratch, while restaurants like Loving Hut will just buy whatever commercially available ones that are available. It depends on your stance on processed food, but some people also consider those not healthy as well.

+Calicido Korean culture *in general* is a lot more strict in teaching their kids to not be a picky eater so when it comes to restaurants, it's unlikely for anyone to ask for alteration of the food. If they don't want to eat something, they can pick it out themselves once the food is out. In terms of vegetarian dishes, it's up to you to know which dishes are cooked without animal products unless you specifically go to a vegetarian restaurant or buddhist restaurants. buddhist restaurants that cooks buddhist temple dishes(사찰음식) are vegan. In terms of a Korean expression to ask for a vegetarian dish, you could ask "채식 요리 있나요?" but there are good chances that the server might not know since many base sauces in Korea use fish in them and some of the none- meat dishes contain those sauce.

When people ask, "I wonder how vegetarians/vegans" know what xyz meat tastes like?" because you weren't born a vegetarian/vegan...? And if you were, good for you but not everyone else was.

i've met a few people in college who had been vegan/vegetarian all their lives. a few had tried some stuff they hadn't been allowed to and just continued to stay vegetarian or vegan. there were also a few who would go around and talk about how they used to be vegan/vegetarian, but then they had real grilled cheese or pizza and they were done with that

How bout Muslim or Halal Korean Food in Korea are they any good?

Its actually really hard to find korean halal food in Korea because usually the halal food there is either Turkish food or Arabian food but there is a way to eat korean food. The korean seafood restaurants never sells pork,chicken and beef. The seafood shops there are amazing. There 1 or 2 restaurants that sell korean food that is halal but its usually in Itaewon.You still can eat the jjigae (stew) and the food there is amazing. (This is from my experience when I went to Korea)

Nourhan Hossam​ as I actually learn how to cook Korean food. They don't put wine in their seafood soup. They sell soju but they don't put it in. You can try them still but don't eat at those ahjumma's red tents as they usually serve soondae which is blood pork sausage. Eating kimbap at the convenience store is also dangerous. Don't be too worried.

I don't like the fact that they mostly serve meat centered dishes in vegan style. Don't try to veganize steak or cutlets of meat, it's just gross. Even though I like tofu, I don't want the tofu to BE the meal. I prefer vegan dishes that are centered around vegetables, fruit, nuts, rice, pasta, beans or bread. With a little bit of tofu if the dish is too light, but don't make the meal *about* the tofu.

Ah. I can understand that. It seems to be that way in the USA, too though. I can understand in Asian countries like South Korea using so much tofu. Even vegan chefs here on KZbin seem to recreate meat. But I've seen them be a little more creative. You should check out Indian food that's Vegetarian, (there's a lot of it and tofu really isn't a thing in the cuisine) and Vegan as well

It's just difficult because most East Asian dishes are meat-centered. But if you're looking for good vegetarian and/or vegan food, try Indian food! I was brought up vegetarian in the USA and fed Indian food all my life, it's totally the best cuisine hehe :D

OranJJeTofu Why is everyone giving me food advice? I already know what to eat. I wasn't even talking about that. East Asian dishes are not at all meat centered. If anything, they're less meat centered than Western food. They rely heavily on vegetables and rice or noodles. Of course, they also serve steaks, but that's not even most of their dishes. I talking about a very specific case, when they try to veganize steak. So they end up giving you a "steak" of tofu, which is idiotic.
