I just realized I inadvertently omitted the title for the question "How Much Calcium Do We Really Need?" at the 1:00:51. I added it to the subtitles and in the process cleaned up some of the closed caption, as quick as I could, so it's not perfect, but it's profoundly better.

Despite what many people have said, I have found that for myself, one can still overeat, even in a whole food plant-based diet. This has been the best move I have ever made. I went whole food plant-based 9 years ago and my blood pressure, diabetes, eczema, congestion, brainfog, hypothyroidism, and obesity became subjects of the past. Not until I also controlled the overeating did my weight finally go into the healthy BMI range.

I LOVE time restricted intermittent fasting. It's been a life changer for me. Not eating when it's dark. The first day I went an entire day without eating, just water, and I felt funky, detoxing. But the next day it was a breeze and I ate within an 8 hour window. The 3rd day I didn't want to even eat and felt great so I ate late in the day. But, I adjusted it down to getting the bulk of my calories in the earlier part of the day, around 10 am to 6pm window. Some days I tend to easily eat within a shorter window without even trying. I sleep better than ever when I do this consistently.

@@VeganLinked Awesome! I have it under control now, but for years, even after I went vegan I was a compulsive overeater. I ate until I got sick and kept eating. It was very much like Dr.Klaper explained when he said he couldn't ever get enough food. Since I dialed in portion sizes and regained control over my eating, I dropped another 40 plus pounds. Also going raw has helped tremendously. I still have to maximize the nutritional values in order to stay in control. I also think it is largely psychological.

@@charliemorrison8168Thank you for the positive encouragement! After going whole foods plant based, I dropped 42 pounds but then plateaued for a few years. Early November, I started controlling my portions and counting my calories, and I dropped 10 pounds, but the holidays came and I started to overeat and indulge in the standard holiday treats but they were still vegan and gluten-free (because I have a wheat allergy). I gained all 10 pounds back. I'm starting back up again with portions control and counting calories now that the holidays are over. I'm confident that I will be able to lose the weight, so I can be at a healthy BMI range.

His story about the husband and wife rings so true for me. My husband’s reply to me expressing a desire for our family to be plant based was, “ok, we can eat more like that, but I’m not giving up my steak.” I said, “ok,” and moved on with my health recovery. Recently he’s expressed his concern about worsening health problems that he is having. He wants to go 100% wfpb like me to see if it helps him. Yay! It only took 8 years. Maybe because I’m now officially in remission from cancer? I don’t know, but I’ll take the win. I know I’ll get more years with him. 💕

My aunt is a retired medical doctor now afflicted with diabetes, hypertension, lupus, and dementia. None of the doctors she has seen have offered any solutions other than continue the medications and let her eat whatever she likes, which is mostly meat and dairy. I am now trying to treat her myself with a Whole Food Plant Based diet, but its an uphill battle. I am not a medical doctor. The irony of me treating a veteran doctor leaves me speechless. I hope the typical medical profession can heal itself of its own affliction of ignorance.

At around 10 min into this video he explains his change in relationship with leather. I'm excited to hear him explain it this way as it is similar to my experience. Humans are animals and consciousness is not unique to our species (look it up). When I see leather on products it disgusts me as it would be no different than having human skin leather. The same goes for food. I am squeamish as it is, and once my perspective started seeing the flesh of animals the same as the flesh of humans, seeing a burger or steak looks like human flesh on a plate and it is gross. Also, I stopped using terms like "meat" and "leather" as they are used for our minds to justify its use. Just call it what it is, flesh or skin of a dead animal.
@MindVersusMisery
@MindVersusMisery 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100 %. Animal flesh, secretions from animals, animal skin and fur, down in jackets and duvets, animal tested products and animals as entertainment all come with extreme amounts of cruelty and exploitation. Just leave them alone! They deserve to be free from being viewed as commodities.

Lots of “things” are called by different names when they are changed. Grain gets turned into flour, or masa, avocados turn into guacamole, tomatoes turn into sauce, paste or ketchup. I get what you’re saying, but I think if more of us stay centered rather than making a hard turn, more people will convert. You get more flies with sugar than vinegar.

I want to do interviews and speeches with all of the great things I have to share. It just needs to be live, on video or phone chat.. part of me requires real life interaction and I don’t see the issue with that if people would actually like to meet or have discussions other than social media and chat sections only. We can’t bring life back to the world if we spend all our time apart. Is anyone else experiencing this a lot. Any suggestions on meeting new adults in this day and age? ..and one’s that want to put effort into moving to a better world, not bar or party people. People with focus.. any ideas? This is an honorable way to think and live, BUT...God has an expiration date for this planet and for we as humans. Nothing we do will add to His plan. He is the one who created this earth. I believe we should absolutely be responsible to take care of the earth. I decided to go plant based 4 years ago and at first I felt great, but a couple of years later my iron, D and B-12 have just kept dropping. My eyes are always red, burning and dry and my skin is very dry, despite drinking lots of water, water with lemon and 1 cup of herbal tea daily. (I see a conventional doctor which is no help other than to run a few labs). Last year my iron level was 6. Idk how you do it Dr. Klaper. I've started eating a little bit of fish and take supplements, hopefully this will help.
@VeganLinked
@VeganLinked 2 жыл бұрын
D comes from the sun so if you're not getting enough sunshine then obviously then obviously you should supplement that. You can also eat fortified foods and mushrooms can be a source as well. Since bacteria make B12 it's easiest to get it from a clean supplement rather than a contaminated source. Iron can be a little tricky for some people if they menstruate too heavy which may mean they have some other underlying issue. There is sufficient iron in whole plant foods so an appropriately planned whole plant food diet is adequate. For someone with a pre-existing condition it may take a little planning initially. My friend has likes using "Blood Builder" or "New Chapter" for her iron supplement. She's had fibroids before she went vegan. Fortunately going vegan has the potential to be very protective against fibroids and appears to have been for her. Women also report having success with nothing more than planning whole plant food meals better. Some things I've learn; avoid teas around meal time because of their tannins. Eat whole plant foods like mixed greens, don't eat a lot of spinach (choose baby spinach and lightly cook it to remove oxalates), but a variety of other greens and Kale with vinegar and/or vitamin C rich foods like lemon, lime, orange, etc... to increase absorption. And I've heard it's better to get iron through each meal rather than all at once. In addition to greens, blackstrap molasses, dried fruit, sun dried tomatoes on a salad, soy and many other beans, lentils, chickpeas, black eyed peas, and nuts and seeds like pumpkin seeds which you can grind up into a powder and add to smoothies and salads or oatmeal (I prefer groat oats or at least steel cut), sesame seeds, hemp, etc...cashews, almonds, pine nuts, potatoes with the skin, mushrooms, prune juice, olives, mulberries, quinoa, dark chocolate, etc... oh, and chlorella is loaded with iron too. It could take time but be consistent and work with a plant based doctor or nutritionist. And try to reduce bleeding if that's why your iron is low. Exercise may help and staying hydrated. And ginger may help with excessive bleeding: "Just an eighth teaspoon of powdered ginger three times a day starting the day before their period cut their flow in half, and it seemed to work better each month they tried it, providing a highly effective, cheap, easy-to-use, safer treatment for menstrual blood loss and pain." nutritionfacts.org/2019/07/09/a-highly-effective-cheap-easy-to-use-safer-treatment-for-heavy-periods/

Respected Dr Mic, I appreciate your words "Gift beyond measure" in developing children as Vegan. Its true. Though medical statistics in world threaten a "MEAT FREE DIET" as a anaemic, less nutritious or low calorific, I feel that the human body is flexible in food intake depending on work a person does. If a person works more he/ she needs more useful energy, otherwise minimum foods. IT IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO BE VEGAN & SURVIVE ON EARTH

Got to love this man, he really cares and has had the courage to put it into action way ahead of his time. Was fascinated by the idea that some people's bodies might have turned off their own production of nutrients like carnitine due to being fed meat constantly from an early age. This might explain why some vegans who quit do feel differently when they first consume animal flesh, and also those who feel unwell without meat at first who get used to it over time. Remarkable idea. Grateful for all the information you provide so often Dr Klapper. 🙏

Speaking of ignorance of medical professionals... Before I changed my diet and went on my own journey of researching, learning and discovering plant based diet, I was told to eat red meat, heart, liver, etc. to improve low iron levels in addition to iron ampules. 🥴 Enough to say it did NOT work. And I vomitted the hell out of liver that I once ate back then in combo with those ampules. Years later and years of WFPBD, my blood looks amazing, all perfect values! 😊 Can't believe it, but I feel stupid for listening to this 'doctor' years ago. But I was young and I trusted them. Ugh... 😖

You may want to try time restricted intermittent fasting; only eating within an 8 hour or less window and not when it's dark getting the bulk of your calories earlier in the day. And be sure to keep it as whole food plant as possible with an emphasis on a variety of beans and greens, as well as grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, and seeds. You probably know all this though :) Just my 2 cents, I'm not a doctor though... if you can see a plant based doctor that's the best!

Elimination diet may help to figure out the digestive issues. I'm on a healing journey too. Not 100% vegan yet but on the way. Dairy and gluten have been an issue for me for years but sometimes grains and lentils make me bloat. Just pay attention to what's causing an issue. Also look into the blood type diet.

I don't know any meater that eat nutritionally complete diets. Tell me where in cheese burgers is Iodine, Zinc, or FIBER. Speaking of B12, currently 40% of meaters are low in B12 as they have been counting on the meat they eat has all they need. Farmers have to give cattle B12 to keep them well enough to walk to the slaughter house kill floor. There is nothing healthy about what cattle today eat.
