Jake, As an FYI. I have propagated about 40 of these. Any loose soil will work. Hard or stiff clay like soil will not. But keep it moist for 1 month and you are good to go. I have used cuttings that are 1/2" to 2" diameter. No issues with rooting them. And I never need rooting hormone. I use 1-2 foot long cuttings. Bury half in loose well draining soil. Cut off all leaves but 1 or 2 at the top and cut those off to 50% of their size. Within 2-3 weeks, you will have rooting and leafing out. Also, If you take the smaller saplings, cut them 6-8 inches long, and you can make them a nice little table setting ornamental. Just put it into a vase (we use glass) and keep it in water and light if possible. It will eventually root out and then you can plant it as well. Love the show!

It helps to use a pencil or a stick to make a hole prior to putting the cutting in the soil medium, when propagating any new cuttings. That way you don't force the rootone off the stem. Then gently press the soil around it.

I’ve been using root tone and it’s amazing. An idea I use is to poke a pencil into the dirt to make a hole before transplanting the new shoot in. That way I don’t rub off the powder when I push it into the pot. What do you think?

Love Tree Collards, years ago had a specimen here in So Cal that people thought was a Fig Tree, easily 12 ft high and huge girth. And I have had Black Curly Leaf Kale go 3-4 years and 6 ft tall, looked like a palm tree. Keep up the good work.

Hello can you tell me what variety of collards.
@Nafo-Radio7 жыл бұрын
They actually do go to seed. Also they can cross polinate. I have two varieties propagated through forced flowering. The first is a tree collard/winter russian kale cross and the other is a tree collard/green curled kale cross. The way that you make them flower is to expose them to cold temperatures over about two weeks. Then when you plant them you get your typucal brassica flowers.

I had a 3ft Purple tree collard in a small raised bed that i had to move in my yard. It was getting big. I didn't know their true size in the beginning. It seems to be okay in its new location but in the morning its droopy from sun. I have watered & shaded since transplant one week ago. Will it pull through? Planted with Azomite, Fox farms, worm compost & tea. I have 5 smaller 1 foot cuttings that are doing much better without shade. Mesa, Arizona

I do understand the price we pay for a piece of getting tree collards. I met a seller who said they had gynura procumbens for sale. I wanted in, I offered them a 10 gallon pot of Cuban oregano and the purchase of their longevity spinach. the deal was set. the countered with offering me tree collards which made the deal a real bargain now i have two cutting and gynyra procumbens cuttings I'll use your tips in getting them transplanted inn zone nine. I will include companion planting to keep the moths away. Thank you for sharing

I received collards from someone that grew them and I cut them and I placed one LEAF in water and it grew roots on the end of the stem of the leaf. It doesn't look like the stem you showed. It's literally one leaf. Will that grow into a plant if I put it in dirt? There's a ton of roots coming directly out of the bottom of the stem. Thanks!

The tree kale in the video looks like what seed companies are selling as Tronchuda Beira, or Portuguese kale, but his never flowered. Is that typical? I have the red leaf or Richmond tree kale which is very common here in Calif. It rarely flowers. I have crossed it with red cabbage. It will be another year before I will know if it resists flowering.

Keep them well mulched with cardboard on top of wood chips, helps to insulate. Probably more important to put some kind of barrier, anything to block the wind. Happy gardening

hey @jakemace and @gregpeterson! I have a citrus tree question... I live in Las Vegas, I have a bearss lime and a Lisbon lemon tree. they are both fruiting and will go into the ground in February (we've had them in pots until we bought a house). we want to create a citrus area of the yard and want to add a tangarine and a kumquat tree... possibly and orange tree also. when we were at my in laws for christmas we mentioned this and i was told that the lemon and lime will make the oranges sour....so, here is my question: if I plant all the citrus in the same area will the cross pollination of all of them truly affect the flavor? our lemon and lime have always cross pollinated and taste perfectly amazing. but now I'm worried about the other citrus we want to plant... any advice will help! thank you in advance! y'all are awesome!!!!

Sarah McCue, there's a guy on KZbin, Charles Malki, who grows citrus. He would be able to answer your question. His channel is IV Organics. He sells his own product through Home Depot that can be painted or sprayed onto plants to protect them from pests and sunburn. Hope this helps.

We cut our hair, nails, loose our outer skin layer as we age, and still live on, so does the plants. Just cutting leaves or harvesting ripe fruits does not hurt plants. The ripe fruit fall on their own and creatures including us consume them.

ROOTING HORMONE POWDER. I have been growing organically and trying to research this and not finding a lot of quality information to help me decide if I want to use it. In my nursery days, I used a lot of rooting hormone for non edible plants but have yet to be convinced of using them in the garden. I do know the "other" in the ingredients is silica and talc powder, and I'm not concerned about that. Also, my neighbor gave me a bunch of old liquid rooting stimulant . Anyone able to point me to some quality resources, I would appreciate it.
