Here's just one single reason why Vegeta is awesome: In the Buu saga, he not only knew he was going to die, but he knew he was going to hell. And he still did it. Enough said.

Vegeta is most realistic character of all, no bullshit power ups just because being main character, or son of main character is angry and train for one hour. He keeps training every day relentlessly and that's what most people connected to.

he is the one that goes through the most changes in dragon ball z he is more of an outsider than piccolo .. he watched his whole race be murdered and then had to suffer under their murderer... he then was killed and didnt get the chance to avenge is father.. he then trains constantly to surpass goku with single minded determination to be the best so it can never happen again to him... he then swallows his pride to save the earth countless times now tell me he doesnt deserve to be the best

Trunks wasn't like the rest of the saiyans because the only one he knew was Gohan, and after Gohan was killed, Trunks truly realized how deadly the androids were and how he couldn't show off and boast against them, and instead had to finish them as soon as he could. Note that even when Trunks comes back to his own time as a USSJ that he doesn't play around and kills the androids immediately and even when Android 16 offered to help the Z-fighters, Trunks wanted to kill him.

teen gohan is awesome and is one of my favorite charcters in the budokai tenkaichi games but Vegeta is just awesome in general, he may not be the strongest but he damn well is the proudest and most stubborn. It's that determination that has made him my favorite character in general.

Not to mention that every time Goku and Vegeta fought Vegeta had less power but still did a shit ton of damage. Every vegeta has been at least 1 super saiyan or 2 super saiyan levels lower than goku and put up a hell of an ass kicking before Goku miraculously revived

It's funny how when every other saiyan gets an emotional trigger that they get to a new level. Goku saw krillin die and he went SS1, Gohan saw an android die and that was the catalyst for him hitting SS2. Vegeta saw his own son die and he remained the same, they really treat this character badly sometimes.

Actually, it was his ego. Against Cell, he truly did let the power go to his head. He reveled in knocking Cell around. When Goku tells Gohan to finish him, Gohan said no, he needed to suffer more (not anything like, he needs to pay, but suffer). Later, when Goku sacrifices himself, he admits he was wrong in not finishing Cell off (I can't remember his exact words). And against Buu, he was drawing it out to think of a way to save everyone Buu ate. Mocking him was just for fun :D

You are correct, vegeta did not go ussj, he went ascended super saiyan. Only goku and Trunks went to that stage. Vegeta knew that it was not beneficial to go ussj because the bulky muscles would slow him down, Trunks did not. "Future Trunks ascended to the Ultra Super Saiyan form to combat Perfect Cell at the behest of Vegeta's defeat. Although he managed to hold his own for some time, Future Trunks was also unable to defeat Cell because of his inability to maintain equality in speed."

gohan doesnt have an ego, its because of the way he was raised with piccolo's influence, he thinks those who have done great evil should be made to suffer before being defeated, thats why he drags the fight with cell out and totally humiliates super buu when they first fight even tho gohan could have easily killed him off right away... granted his delayed reactions still turned out for the worst in the end, but it wasnt ego at all

Trunks wasn't influenced by saiyan pride. The only saiyan he ever met was Gohan, who was completely serious against the androids. He wasn't arrogant against them because he saw the carnage they spread. Trunks was also raised by his mother, so she most likely suppressed any saiyan pride he DID have, replacing it with logic. Therefor you have future Trunks; the only saiyan who threw away his pride to completely ensure peace. Or at least, this is my opinion.
