It's definitely worth it. Our biggest challenge in getting started with fertigation was the learning curve, especially figuring out how much fertiliser to apply per particular area. We also struggled at first to have the system and its benefits accepted by the team. But now they are on board with it and using the venturi setups extensively across both farms. All the best.

Thanks. Being able to include our local languages was a major inspiration for me to set up this channel. Our tongues are so rarely heard, and the channel has been well appreciated by people across Zambia and in neighboring countries that understand. They have always been my primary target audience. Tell the truth, I never expected to reach many audiences further afield, which had been a wonderful surprise. But, yes, I will try to be more inclusive with subtitles summarizing what is said in future videos.

Thanks. We are working towards having facilities for such in the future. Kimberley will be able to host and accommodate training participants. But we're still a couple of years away from that. Meanwhile, we had our first Farmers Field day last November, which was well publicized. There should be one or two more later this year.

My only advise is that install the Venturi before the filter so that in the event that your fertilizer has some solid particles they will be trapped by the filter and you will save your drip lines. Its going very well and our team is very used to doing it now. No, we still apply granular fertilizers on certain crops from time to time.

Sorry, we try to run our farm as a business. That means being quite realistic about when and how we have to use chemical fertilisers and pesticides in order to optimize yields and returns. From time to time and wherever possible, we use biological agrochems if appropriate and worthwhile. We don't yet have the luxury of trying full-on organic farming. The agricultural world learned a lot of lessons about the risks of organic from what happened in Sri Lanka a few years ago. Thanks.

Hello Mondofarms, good piece as usual. The system really helps with avoiding the mannual application of ganular ferts. How do you ensure that you apply the correct amounts of ferts using a venturi as you irrigate? i note you are using a 20litre bucket to fertigate, how long do you irrigate as you fertigate with a 20l mixture of fertilizer? Appreciate your response.

Those are questions we used to ask ourselves before we adopted the venturi system. We were really stuck with doubts and hesitation. But in the end, we just got started with it and figured out the quantities. The fertiliser companies have agronomists who can be really helpful in such things.

Yes, some people use venturi syphons with sprinklers as well. But it is not as effective because of all the water that goes to waste by being sprayed around the leaves and the ground. Drip is best for fertigation because the concentrated mixture is delivered right to the plant roots.

@@mondofarms4343 aah yes true. The efficacy is compromised. Here in Zimbabwe we use center pivots a lot for filed crops. I noticed recently that they use venturi for fertigation and the results are good so maybe the efficacy is not as good as in drip systems but it still works good.

Hi there. Yes, for the venturi syphin to work, all that's necessary is for the pipe to have enough water pressure to enable the bernoulli effect. In our case, the water was flowing via gravity from a water reservoir. Your supplier of the venturi will help you with such details when you're ready.

Thanks, Pierre. One can use fertigation to apply a range of liquids. These include fertilizers (chemical or biological) in soluble form. One can dissolve some types of granular fertilisers and then apply them in this manner. However, the leading fertiliser manufacturers produce types of fertilisers that are highly suited for liquid application. Please consult agronomists as the major fertiliser companies or distributors for more specific details.

Im sure one could design mobile units, but we didn't go that route.we fertigate and chemigate quite regularly, so moving them would become another issue. I hope you saw the part in the video where I mentioned that we would be putting fertigation stations in strategic areas around the farm to cover different crops there.

There's some calculations we do in terms of fertiliser load per area. You remind of how we also had a lot of doubts before we just decided to just get on with it. We sat on the venturi syohins we had bought for over a year!! We were guilty of over-thinking things and suffered from what is often called paralysis by analysis. Just do it. The suppliers you buy the fertigations systems from, and the fertiliser companies will guide you accordingly.
