You deserve to have videos of your favorite tanks back to back, you have been a great supporter of the channel!! Thank you!!

your Your tanks are awesome, I watch a lot of fish related videos and what I appreciate most is that you create sustainable environments. Almost anyone could do 5o% water changes 3x per week but you just do it right and that is the most impressive part! Keep up the great content.
@AquariumDomain.2 жыл бұрын
Appreciate that!! You nailed exactly what I strive for, natural ecosystems that produce healthy/happy fish and largely sustain themselves.

Love the update, vegetable filtration is awesome. Some support fish I'd add to the discus tank would be festivums and/or keyhole cichlids. Festivums swim more toward the top of the tank and the keyholes swim more toward the bottom. Both are great fish, subtle and peaceful with your stocking. Looking forward to all the updates. Take care.
@AquariumDomain.2 жыл бұрын
Both good suggestions! I am especially fond of Keyhole Cichlid, also thinking about possibly an Apisto pair or try to add some more Rams. Lot's of room for more additions and lots of good choices...now to see if any of my favorite online fish retailers have these guys in stock.

You should add a huge school of pencil fish in the discus tank. I had a breeding colony of the red beckfords and they were super pretty and had more active and interesting behavior than tetras. I’ve also had the “brown Pencilfish ” which is nannostomus eques I believe and also I’ve had nannostomus unifasciatus both of which have that awesome 45° swimming angle and would look great with the floating plants roots.

The discus are really growing fast, tank looks awesome. I use frogbit in a 40b for my discus filter, it's very easy for low maintenance.
@AquariumDomain.2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brad! I added frogbit, water lettuce and water hyacinth and so far they are all doing well. Oh and a few red root floaters. :-)
@Brad.Hobbies2 жыл бұрын
@@AquariumDomain. I tried the red root floaters before but I wasn't running my lights long enough, and they were probably under powdered and also I'd say I likely had flow from an oxygen tube disturbing them. I'll watch to see if you have better luck, they're really nice when they are happy.

Hello, could you tell me what the plant names are that you use as filtration? I only know the pothos. Thanks

I would love to try Discus some day but I keep seeing information about them needing bare bottoms and daily to weekly 95% water changes and I know that’s not me. This kind of tank I could do and lo and behold the discus are still alive and looking fantastic!
@AquariumDomain.2 жыл бұрын
Definitely that style of Discus fish keeping is not the only way to keep Discus...and is certainly not my method. If you have a well established aquarium with stable biological filtration, suitable tank mates and water temperature between 79-86° F, you should have no problem keeping Discus.

I think serpae tetras are very underrated. I always overlooked them. Till I bought some one day, on a whim. Now I love them. They're tough as nails! And bright red! Great video. You have a lot going on!

How do you properly grow your Pothos out of your tanks. I bought some to do just that, but not sure where to start.
@brettneedham37132 жыл бұрын
Clean all the dirt off the roots, place with zip ties to something and just leave the roots in the water , my porthos has leaves the size of basketballs
@AquariumDomain.2 жыл бұрын
Like Brett commented, clean all the dirt off the roots and then use a twist tie or something similar to attach the pothos onto something right at the top of the water, keeping the plant just above the water. It will drop down roots into the water and then it should be off to the races!

Awesome tanks, loving the plants in the filter. what kind off plants are u using, (the ones that grow out of the filter) looking to fill my sump whith some plants, also did u use special lighting?
@AquariumDomain. Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The filter is mostly Peace Lillies, but there is also some Pothos in there as well. Lighting is just a generic LED flood light with 5500K color temperature.

You might be able to sell those lettuce plants wholesale. I know a bunch of pet stores by me that sell them. Then again, I live in San Diego where ponds go all year long.

First time on your channel and I love your tanks! I’m trying to do something like this. What temp do you keep your tanks at? I just got a few water lettice and duckweed to fill my tank and my temp is 86 but idk if my plants will live. I just put them in 2 days ago.
@AquariumDomain.9 ай бұрын
Thanks, welcome to the channel! 86° all the time is going to be kinda rough on most submerged plants. Water Lettuce should be OK at that temp, as it is a full sun plant with emergent growth. I tested out a few temps with my Discus and found that 82° was the sweet spot for me. They did noticeable poorer in less than 80° water, but did excellent in between 82° and 86°, so I have been on 82° for years now with them.

Just found your older post so I guess this is a Schrodinger's cat situation... I hope the cat survived the toxic plants that you placed within easy grazing range of the kitty. (In the same low vicinity where you drilled your hand.) Maybe try non-toxic Spider Plant instead of ones (Pothos, Philodendron, etc.) that a quick Google search says can cause cats "intense burning and irritation of the mouth, tongue, and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting, difficulty swallowing, pawing at the mouth, loss of appetite, skin irritation, and breathing difficulty."
@AquariumDomain.5 ай бұрын
Fortunately for me my cat has shown no interest in Pothos (or any other house plant we have) over the last 14 years. 😊
@timothyacord41065 ай бұрын
@@AquariumDomain. Glad to hear that. I just suspended spider plants above my 120g planted aquarium. I first saw the semi-submerged trick to remove nitrates on KZbin with cat toxic plants. I kept searching until I found a plant that was non-toxic to both cats and fish. When I sat the new spider plant down to prepare it for aquarium duty, one of my cats charged at it like a joyous child at a toy car on Christmas morning.
