Thanks Rebecca see you in planetcatfish! So we stop with vegetables & stick with repashy soilent & morning wood along with the high quality wafers like northfin? I breed l306, l397 & l332 & l204.

I need to properly read into Northfin. I would treat vegetables more as an addition so what I mean is not relying on them, so using them more as an addition to a diet rather then a complete diet. The video is more about people who use vegetables as a complete diet or to add to a complete diet which is best avoided largely nutritionally.

I used to feed Plecos some green beans (minus the seeds), pea mush and zucchini or cucumber because many shops here tend to have zucchini on a fork provided as food. I do find occasionally that they are helpful for plecos starving on arrival, because you quickly see they are eating by the huge amount of waste produced but also shows poor digestion. I am curious of your thoughts on kale or romaine lettuce. I do still feed mixed greens/salad to goldfish which does produce a lot of waste but seems to eliminate the chance of bloat or swim bladder issues by keeping them regular. I enjoy watching your vids and hearing your scientific POV. I hope you can find the time to keep producing them.

It's kind of useful I guess in stores but definitely so much waste is produced. Kale I'm not sure my fish would eat, it can be quite gassy at least for mammals but I find none of my Loricariids recognize leaves so much as food. Other salads never tried, my worry with them would be more pesticides. Swim bladder issues is a whole other issue but I think depends on the goldfish suppliers, ours in the UK seem really prone to hitting a certain size then going belly up.

I don't think that I have had a single pleco turn down zuchinni...even the meat eaters (possible exception was hypancistrus zebra). My L600 absolutely loves it, as do my L027 and gibbiceps. I find it interesting that the L14 eats the skin, while the others eat the meaty insides. That being said, I also feed repashy.

I think there will always be a level of eating something they don't naturally do. But I do find there are quite a few that don't touch it, most of my Ancistrus spp. don't and neither do the Panaqolus but I do offer it to them sometimes.

I would argue people feed veggies to fish and other animals as we have been trained to feed on them ourselves for nutritional benefits, so we as whole think veges will be good for our animals

I agree, I think I wanted to mention that but forgot. What we see a well rounded diet is based on what we eat but also at some times what dogs eat. I wonder if there is also a veganism influence as even some vets are saying there are some vegan diets that can meet dogs nutritional requirements........

I agree with that statement also.

@@FreshwaterIchthyology Really grinds my gears seeing K9 or Feline being feed veggies, let alone callichthyidea species that have no business being feed veg in their diet. Even with humans, on a side rant, peas and carrots have no damn business being in a bacon an egg pie 😂

What about seaweeds?
@FreshwaterIchthyology9 күн бұрын
Seaweeds as macroalgae's are different from vegetables, high in protein and other nutrients, I think they are fine. The balance with them is trying to get the fishes to eat them so balancing other ingredients. The algaes in freshwater rarely grow like that but it seems to take a while for the fishes to recognize seaweeds as food.

I’ve been breeding 6 different kinds of bristle nose shrimp for 3 years feeding solely zucchini to any bn that could feed on it , smaller fry got green water till moving to zucchini, never had any problems tried green beans too not as much of a want for them but zucchini never gave me issues

Just because you have been doing that doesn't mean that is what they really need or correct. Think bigger! Sounds more like you don't have what they NEED available OR just lazy and are doing whats easy for you.

@@Twist_av_Lemon since i got into it ive been told to feed cucumber and sinking pellet lol, they barely go for pellet when i throw them in, they go straight to zucchini or green beans or just eat algae. if for 3 years i been breeding and selling a ton like atleast 2000 i will say ive currently got about 200 little wiggles in a 40g breeder lol waiting to be separated. and i can only count on my hands of how many ive lost in that time span... 3 full famillies ive grown fully, albino longfin bn, greendragon long fin and super red long fins grown to full adult hood on just veggies and occasional blood worm if theres extra from the leaf fish tank
