Lmao! At least your wife gives a crap. I just bought my kiln and her last words were, "can't you just rent this sort if stuff" Hahahhaha. But she want an Excalibur sword so she's only disappointed that I bought a small electric kiln than a full sized 3 burner gas forge, anvil, blacksmithing tools etc so that I could litterally forge her a sword for no real reason outside of her liking it from a Netflix series. Guess I'm not manly enough for her.🤣🤣
@deborahduthie45194 жыл бұрын
Austin Hussey That’s how to do it young man. Little by little. Carve a few wax rings for her so she can see how dedicated you are and what you’ll be making for her but you can’t make them, not if you haven’t got a kiln. Maybe someone can rent you a kiln for one month. Local Lapidary club might be able to help you out but if you can’t hire one, you’re another step closer to getting your own. Or start a money box for your kiln. Every day empty every coin from your pockets and wallets, into the money box. It soon mounts up. Like that pun?😆. No harm in trying.

Great video! Love your humor! I was curious as to if this resin performed as well as it does, it seems so! I think your ring even has better details than the GTHIC ring, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it, on one hand your ring is so perfect it appears clearly manufactured and that may not appeal to some people, the GTHIC ring clearly looks more handmade and has those tiny imperfections to show that, plus it has more of a vintage look to it (hard to explain, the best way I can is that ancient jewelry from early peoples you could easily see the tool marks and they were much less perfect compared to today's stuff). I am going for a high degree of perfection for what I am doing though, as my design is extremely detailed, standard resin struggles with it and I know for sure my own hands couldn't manage it!

Tha website says you can set the stones to the printed model before casting. Wouldn’t that ruin the stone when the molten metal is poured in?
@vogman3 жыл бұрын
Some stones can be wrecked at high temperatures, so that's the first thing to check. But yes, you can do this. Add a little wax to the underside of the gem to glue it into the print. The plaster surrounds everything and keeps it in situ. During the burnout, only the resin and wax burn away, leaving the gems suspended in plaster. The metal then flows around the gems filling only the space left by the resin, so the gems should be fine 😁

Now Im stuck with a usless VERY expensive bottle of Powercast wax resin?? any ideas? The casting company are saying its something to do with the wax resin and the resin company are assuring me it wasnt the wax but the process?? - Since I have found out on the 'guide to casting in with powercast resin wax' that apparently you need to clean it in IPA for 10 minutes and then a further 5 before casting, I only briefly washed it for a couple of minutes after it was first printed - could this be the cause?

I'm sorry to hear about this. I'm also surprised the professional casting company didn't have more experience to guide you. This isn't a problem I've personally experienced. In honesty I'm quite casual about cleaning myself. Certainly I don't think I've ever cleaned for 10 minutes. However, I do set my prints in plaster within a couple of hours of printing... I wonder if that might make a difference. I know with Bluecast they recommend casting ASAP and if not, keep in an airtight box... I don't know if the same applies to Powercast, but maybe...

I know you’ve used both wax and burn. Do you burn off wax at the same cycle as powercast burn?
@vogman4 жыл бұрын
I treated them exactly the same 😊

Hi ! I see that you applied a primer with a brush on the printing plate, Could you please tell me what is that primer please ???
@vogman4 жыл бұрын
The primer is just the same resin 😁 Have a look at this weeks video where I cover this very topic - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJexcoeEhMuioKM

I notice you never show the cavity after the wax is melted, which seems to be the defining act in the lost wax method.
@vogman4 жыл бұрын
The cavity is inside the plaster : )

I agree, it's not cheap stuff. It's very good though : )

You can print in PLA plastic instead. The methodology for burning it is slightly different, but basically the same. Depending on your use case, it may suit.
@grmahuntsegay484 жыл бұрын
It is very interesting. Good job. How much resin do you use in one print. 500g ? 250g ? The amount should impact overall cost.
@vogman4 жыл бұрын
Nowhere near that much, thankfully. A bottle tends to be around 500g. Prints like this one are typically small, maybe 10 or 20ml. Obviously it all depends on what you're printing 😊

I am using alphasense DLP/SLA Castable resin with my elegoo mars any tips on the settings and why it keeps sticking to the fep film?
@vogman4 жыл бұрын
If it's on the film it's not sticking to the plate. Get everything nice and level and really bake on those first few layers : )

Do you re-level your build plate after printing the prime layers?
@vogman5 жыл бұрын
No my friend. I try not to reset at all if I can help it. If it's working, don't fix it, that's my motto : )
@hanelyp15 жыл бұрын
I'd think the priming layer should be already flat to the light window, perhaps more so than the build plate was. Re-leveling would just be asking to mess that up.

Is it possible To hollow out the models, make two holes in it and let the inside resin go prior To Burnout process?
@vogman4 жыл бұрын
Yes, and I usually do hollow them to save on resin. With something like this ring, the sections are so thin that hollowing isn't worthwhile. But in the Viking Axe head that I made a few weeks ago or in this weeks video kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGWnqX-urtxjrNk I created drainage holes : )

Hey there. Quick question concerning casting plaster in general. I only have a small Furnace that can go to 800 and 1000°C. How important are these burnout cycles for a successfull lost pla cast? Should i try doing it or is it defineatly going to fail? Just wanted to ask someone experienced
@vogman5 жыл бұрын
Happy to help. I'd say critical. The burnout process not only removes all the PLA, it prepares the plaster, burning away the excess moisture and making it properly porous. 800C is more than enough. My burnout rate cycle maxes at 750 I seem to recall : )

when using a jewler's saw, remember to wax your blades, keeps it from binding and breaking all the time. Simple run a piece of paraffin along the blade every couple of minutes.

@SpringBreak-3D4 жыл бұрын
Do you get slap sounds when the build plate start to go up? cause i hear hard slaps on mine, is this normal?
@vogman4 жыл бұрын
This is normal. The plate sticks to the FEP and then 'snaps' free. You hear this most on the bottom layers 😊
@RedFathom5 жыл бұрын
gotta keep some tension on those blades so they don't bend when your cutting. if they are bending over the work they break quicker.
