Veliko Tarnovo, the medieval capital of Bulgaria, is a charming and picturesque town located at approx. 100 km from the town of Russe. It is located on the Yantra River and is often called the "City of the Tsars" because it was the historic capital of the second Bulgarian Empire. It is one of the oldest cities in Bulgaria, and its historical center stretches over three hills: Tsarevets, Trapezitsa and Sveta Gora, and includes fortresses that shelter royal and patriarchal palaces, towers and imposing bridges and so on. From an architectural point of view, visitors can make a trip in the past. Along the craft streets, they have the opportunity to see stepped houses built 200 years ago.
