"If a dog can solve crimes, then Velma can be brown." ...Kaling does realize dogs can solve crimes in real life, right? Fun fact: Kaling had some controversy years back when her brother pretended to be black to get into the school he wanted. His initial application was denied due to not having high enough grades. I think a black friend of his with similar grades was accepted (or something like that), so he changed his application to make it seem like he was black. I think he changed his name to Jojo which was a nickname. Same grades and transcript, but this time he applied as a black student and suddenly he was accepted. When this all came to light, she was very embarrassed and of course he was called a racist

Don't you love how they made everyone into racial stereotypes in an attempt to be inclusive. Velma: -Is the smart one, so she has to be Indian. -Is a shameless self insert. Also racist, sexist, manipulative, uncaring, unfunny, and just downright rude. (To be fair, accurate to Mindy) Not-Shaggy: -The character who was theorized to be a stoner just happens to be the Black one. (Seriously? No one saw that?) -Every girlboss protagonist has a useless black sidekick who simps for them. (The Finn Effect) -He doesn't have a job. Daphne (Actually a composition of multiple cliches, but still one dimensional): -Asian cliche (Adopted, knows martial arts, and super intelligent) -Bully cliche (Violent, rude, not so secret obsession with the protagonist) -Popular girl cliche (Love of fashion and absurdly horny) Fred: -Was the only one who wasn't race swapped so he could be the victim of all the dreaded "white people" jokes. -He's a preppy and snobbish twat that has everything handed to him, making him both soft and incompetent. -Mindy Kaling believes characters like Fred can be defined by their whiteness. (That's pretty racist if you ask me.) -He's ironically the only one with a character arc onscreen.

Your second point on Not- Shaggy ties into the subtle racism that entertainment industry SJWs have. See, while they of course will never admit it, most ultra- woke SJWs, particularly in the entertainment industry, are absolutely terrified of minority men, ESPECIALLY black and Hispanic men. The reason for this is that both of their respective cultures tend to place a lot of emphasis on manliness, or as SJWs prefer to call it, "Toxic masculinity." So, to try and in their minds remedy this, whenever a modern ultra- woke movie or show has a minority male character on it, particularly a black and/ or Hispanic male character, he tends to be portrayed as a spineless, dorky, simpy, emasculated beta- male puss for the girlboss characters to walk all over (In addition to Not- Shaggy, other examples of this principle include the 'Batwoman' show's butchery of Luke Fox, Oscar in the repugnant 'Nubia: The Real One' graphic novel, and the main girl's pathetic little weenie of a love interest in the 2019 'Black Christmas' remake- in- name- only), because such characters embody what the SJWs see as a "Safe," nonthreatening minority male whom they don't have to be scared of. It's similar to the old racist saying "You must be one of the good ones."

A good majority of modern toons is as self inserts for the "creators", I use that term exceedingly loosely, to act out their sexual fantasy and/or ego trips, eg, She-Ra Princesses of Power, High Guardian Spice and now Velma! Whilst many creators do insert themselves into stuff the produce, they're not inserting themselves as a main character, or even a side character, it's usually just a quick one and done cameo, sort of an easter egg for people to notice or as a joke, Stan Lee was prolific in this, but with these peeps, all they want the attention, they want to be lift high on a pedestal and be praised like gods as if they had done something amazing, something that has never been done before, though if it has, it is they have done the bestest version evarrr. It's tiring and boring, as soon as we can reset things to not be so selfish and stupid, the better!

The female characters are poorly written and are only there as a stepping stool to the male characters, the writers are trying to justify Stolas’s cheating by saying that Stella is abusive and is the only one in the wrong, painting Stolas as a Angel that can do no wrong, and the show went out of track, from being a funny dark version of the Office to being a love story drama. Something I've noticed about Kaling's attempts at targeted humor is how she writes them with this kind of "We were all thinking it" tone, despite how so out-of-touch her humor is, with the "4-20 is code for adults who watch cartoons" being a great microcosm. When you consider how bad shows like this tend to have the writers' opinions being bludgeoned into the viewer, one can't help fear the probability that even the worst jokes this show subjects us to aren't just simply bad jokes, but Mindy Kaling's actual thoughts.

I’d ask who this is for but there’s literally only one person: Mindy Kaling, the creator herself; this is a show exclusively by and for herself. Like in the previous video made by Jack, I shall provide an idea that would interesting, or in this case: leagues better, cooler of a concept, and do what the dumpster fire full of septic dog shit that is Velma said it would do: It is modern day Crystal Cove, and like all things - it has changed along with the world. Over time, mysteries began to die down and the Mystery Gang went their separate ways. Fred and Daphne got married, going on to make a men and women's clothing line - Fred's ascots being well-known in high society. Shaggy put aside some of his laid-back personality, and become a famous food critic of all variety of culinary variaties. Scooby went to become an activist and representative for sapient animals like him, forming an organization for their proper representation and treatment. As one would expect, dog's don't live as long as people - so his legacy is continued on by his children. Velma would go into research and development for numerous technological discoveries and advancements - even winning a few awards and a Nobel prize. Pan back over to Crystal Cove, and we're introduced to a *variety of characters - many of which seem to follow the archetype of the original Mystery Incorporated. None of them really have any proper connections to each other (besides the "Scooby and Shaggy" characters) besides knowing each other at school. Later on in the first episode, an event occurs that shakes the whole town - a monster has been sighted attacking locals of the town. By a twist of fate, the group all end up coming together and solve the mystery, to which it garners the attention of the original characters. As the story went on, each of the previous characters would as something of a mentor to this next generation of mystery solvers - as with a small spark in their town is made, more mysteries begin to come up and spread like wildfire across the US. And then, the show's plotline would begin *the background and identity (racial, school group, sexuality, interests, etc.) are open to customization - as these would be lumps of clay capable of being made into potential characters. **in my honest opinion, however, I would preferably want this on a channel or service and be given the treatment Samurai Jack was given in its reboot - transitioning from a cartoon for kids into a show with a deeper storyline whilst still respecting the original show and its lore. If anything, have this be somewhat inspired by Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated And no - theres no way in fvck I'd let Mindy or anyone like her on this. In my opinion, it'd be best to make a group consisting of members from all fields and backgrounds with differing opinions and biases - but are very much able to work together. By doing this, characters can be more rounded out rather than filling a mold for merely one singular group or demographic.

@TheRealGrimReaper I already posted this when Jack announced that he was going to watch Velma but I’ll say it again, One of my favorite KZbinrs called the Fangirl did a video on Velma saying that it should’ve been a spoof of Scooby-Doo called ‘Selma’ (something like that). It could be done in a way similar to Venture Bros. where the characters live in the same world as Scooby-Doo, Johnny Quest, & other 60’s shows. It could be a darker story & all its own at the same time. We could see or hear about the Mystery gang but they’re trivial to the plot. Given good writers something like that could be outstanding!

I would like you to talk about the characters like how despite the show best effort to ruin both Fred and Norville, they are more tolerable than the rest of the cast. Fred is probably the best written character(which is not saying much), think about it he gets the van, his mom is dead, he changes, and "Velma" really wants us to hate him. Norville is chill but very over possessive but you feel bad for him since "Velma" treats him like shit. Dahpne is a plank of wood that functions to be the love interest with no personality and Velma is so unlikable(I will not take jabs at Mindy because I don't know her well enough)

OMG, the review is on! And it came a lot sooner than what I expected, a whole month that is. Yet the timing can't be any more perfect. Season 1 just finished, so now we can start with the REAL show! And oh boy, what a stinker this NOT- Scooby Doo spin-off was. I watched the entire thing (whishing I didn't), and..... that's was a massive slap to the ENTIRE franchise. I will save my thoughts on each bad moment for the respective episode reviews once they come out, but one thing I have to say now is this- This show shits on every single beloved moment, character and Easter egg from the SD franchise with no tomorrow. You cannot go 2 scenes without a joke or comment that takes a massive dump on SD and mainstream media in general, and each of this scenes got me to beat my head against a wall in rage and cringe. I cannot fathom the amount of hate Velma has against SD, to a point I question whether Mindy Kaling truly loved Velma (the character) and the SD show as much as she claims. Yet the funniest thing in this whole deal, and I hope Jack would point it out in his later videos is that the show still referenced SD and other Hanna- Barbera shows A LOT throughout it's runtime, to a point that I felt the animators and writers wanted the viewers to notice them and go frame by frame pointing them all out like people do for any other good shows and movies. There are the obvious references that's are talked a lot by the reviewers, yet there are also a few sneaky ones in the background details. Actually, the background details themselves tell a far more compelling story than the writers themselves, up to a point that it's fun to stop at random scenes and analyze everything that isn't the characters on screen. There even are some cool gags you can catch like the gay dudes couple who is constantly running around while French kissing each other. Beyond this..... The show blows, I hate myself for watching it full, the mystery ultimately made no fucking sense and the reveal of the true culprit was so out of a left field, that the show didn't leave any clues to their identity AT ALL. Can't wait for Jack to rip into this one, cause this show needs a good thorough beating.

10:33 the "joke" about norville liking drugs is not about being PC, its more or less mocking the scooby doo community, cuz theres been a common joke/theory/headcanon that Shaggy is a stoner cuz of how he sounds, how he talks, and how he eats. so the people behind the show are trying to be "subversive" against the "Shaggy joke" by having Norville say he doesnt like drugs. tl;dr their shaggy(norville) is going against what people expect actual Shaggy to be like.

But here's the thing: You can make Shaggy not a stoner... BUT MAKE IT FUNNY! Like, for a few episodes or an entire season make us think that Shaggy enjoys smoke blunts, like a hint there, a hint here... And suddenly, make the plot twist that he was never smoking cannabis, but he was helping people leaving it. Not the best comical twist ever made, but 1000% better than "Hi, I'm Norville and I don't like drugs"

HBO's Velma is just another example of everything wrong with modern interpretations of stories we love. Making shitty versions of classic characters we love and proceeding to tell is these knew versions are better. Hiding behind a mask of "representation" only to have said representation be horrible. Humour that isn't actually that funny and of course pretentious writers who think they know better than the fans of a franchise they don't give a shit about. As someone who wants to be a writer, these are things that infuriate me for all the reasons I just mentioned. Spiderman is my favourite super hero, if I ever got the chance to write a cartoon or a comic about him, I'd keep him in character whilst also trying to do something knew that's respectful to Stan Lee, Steve Ditco and my fellow Spiderfans. I also wouldn't say "oh people don't like it, it must be because I had a couple of non-white people as background characters and not the main group." I think I mentioned this during Jack's 'I'm Not Starfire' series, but I have written a self insert, but not only is said insert a character separate for any other franchise, but I actually gave him flaws that (hopefully) wouldn’t retract others from finding him likeable. Although apparently Mindy self inserts A LOT, so I'm not surprised. And Jack you are 100% right in saying this is worse than HGS, simply because at least with HGS the only reputation it ruined was its own. Velma spits in both its own and Scooby-Doo's reputation. Its just Scooby-Doo's version of Ghostbusters 2016 or the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Looking forward to part 2

IMO, the fact that Norville states that he hates drugs is related to the theory that Shaggy is a goofy stoner, so the show creators wanted to make it clear that Norville is a black guy who's mature, responsible and doesn't go around smoking weed or anything of the sort, unlike trashy Shaggy.

The thing about leadership in Scooby doo is that in more modern interpretations of these characters Fred isn't so much the leader but like a "playmaker" for lack of the better word. He's the guy thas a plan, makes sure everyone knows what their job is but he doesn't really call the shots, at least not by himself Velma and daphne seem to have a lot of control over decision making, if anything daphne's really more of a leader since she's like the party's "face".

I said it before and I’ll say it now. Velma is what happens when someone whose on the far end of progressive tries to make their own social commentary but A) is not talented enough to disguise their racism and biases with the usual vernacular and sophistry and B) is not smart enough to understand comedy past surface level reference humor. This show is basically family guy if everyone constantly made in-jokes and never used clips to explain them.

Do they pause a bit and tell themselves that they can do better with the opportunities they have? All the noise about this show made me think of the original series, and I felt like re-watching it. I just finished both seasons of "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" (1969-1970), and now watching the 2nd series, "The New Scooby-Doo Movies," with the celebrity guests and doubled runtime per episode. Planning to entirely re-watch The Scooby-Doo / Dynomutt Hour from 1976-1978 as well. No Scrappy-Doo series, though :P In the original show, Fred is indeed the one who seems to call the shots, but Velma is kind of like his main peer with the investigative stuff. Daphne is the useless one that just makes exposition remarks. It's kinda funny how, whenever they ALL get scared and jump into each other's hands (which is usually only done by Scooby and Shaggy), it's Velma who ends up staying on her feet and carrying them all, as even Fred jumps on the pile. I'm not sure if Velma is supposed to be the most self-controlled out of them, or if this was just because it'd be awkward to draw her being carried (as she wears a skirt without stockings). Anyway, just seeing this kind of a modern take on them makes me roll my eyes. I cannot get mad for something so far removed from the real thing. Like, sure, the 1969 show was aimed at teenagers of the time, with the cast having beach parties and using words like "groovy," but it's still a show for all ages. If you wanna strip the show of the titular character AND the innocent fun, you should just make a new show. But, we all know the deal - when you don't want to take risks, you just utilize a classic IP.

So the whole point of those murders was to give Fred a new brain. Let's make a bullet point of everything that doesn't make sense with this plan. - If the point is to make Fred smarter why still the brains of teenage girls? The girls aren't some kind of geniuses, they're hot and by extension presumably dumb according to the show. Why not still the brain of some CEO? They clearly have connections with people like that. Is the joke supposed to be that anyone would be smarter than Fred? - If she has the ability to hypnotize people why doesn't she hypnotize Fred into being a perfect CEO? - If Fred's parents are so adamant about him inheriting the company and being a manly man why did they start just now? Shouldn't they have been preparing him since he was born? You know, making him go to a special school with extra classes, hiring private teachers, making him do extra activities like all kinds of sports, etc. Stereotypical rich kid stuff. Fred is very obedient and wants to do everything to please his parents. He can at least try. According to the show he totally changed after reading just one book on feminism. Make him read something useful! - Fred's mom better not pull this feminist bullshit. She killed innocent girls because she didn't raise her son properly. I bet the writers were patting themselves on the back. ''Everybody expects that the killer will be a white straight male but it is actually a white straight lady. Aren't we so subversive?'' - If people retain their memory even in a different body, how else would Fred be smarter, and that's what Fred's mom's comment to Velma alludes to, what's stopping whoever will be in Fred's body from telling the truth? The possibilities of rich white male privilege? - Why kill all these girls? Shouldn't she immediately make a switch as soon as she got the first brain? Or was she not satisfied with the brains she got and went on hunting until she finds the one she likes? In that case, she should've gotten to know the people before she murdered them for nothing and potentially incriminated herself. Held some competition or a test and attack the winner or something.

Show would've been a little less hated if it wasn't beloved characters being pretty much character assassinated for the sake of Mindy's ego. If you wanted to use an existing IP, why not just have the show set in the Scooby Doo universe as sn emerging group of crime solvers that occasionally meet up or compete with the mystery gang to solve mysteries but focusing on more gruesome crimes while the mystery gang focuses on the more mystical and less gruesome ones. Have some of the previous VAs for the mystery gang reprise their roles generate some good will with fans, and have their own original awful characters not polluting the mystery gang characters
