Adult doesnt exactly mean Blood, gore all that jazz Adult can just mean it tackles topics children wouldnt understand There are alot of good shows that tackle adult topics without explicitly having Blood, Gore Swearing every sentance None of that Mature on the other hand Can be for teens aswell But the thing is Both dont need to be extremely gorey or swear like a god damn sailor In my opinion a good show would need to balance points and not just go all out on stuff like that When in reality the target audience doesnt want a bunch of gore and swearingIf they did they would just go watch fuckin family guy or a horror movie A good show is as good as the person believes it to be now on the other hand THIS SHOW IS FUCKING HORRIBLE NOONE LIKES THIS

I heard that this was originally supposed to be a unique IP but Mindy Kaling could only get it greenlit on the condition that it was attached to an existing IP. I will say that while I think promotional diversity hiring (race or gender swapping a character purely to create marketing buzz, or marketing your non-White cast in a way that their race is used to create controversy as a marketing strategy) is a problem in modern Hollywood, I think the bigger problem is that the characters in this just look really bad. It seems like that multiple studios came to the conclusion that it is not worth competing with each other. Instead they try to make each show as mediocre as possible. For the studios view it has many advantages. 1. They save money, because they dont need good writing. 2. There is no competition, when every studio produces garbage 3. The next shows of these studios dont have to be better than the last. 4. The show is forgotten in the right time, when the next project gets released. 5. Streaming services seem to prefer quantity The only competition are from foreign countries especially asian countries

We’ve had a Puerto Rican Fred, a Puerto Rican Velma, and a part Black and Indigenous Daphne before, and I don’t recall them getting any unusual amounts of hate. Heck, the original Shaggy was voiced by a Lebanese man. There is a ton to criticize about the show, and there will likely be a lot of people taking the opportunity to try to make this about race, but it shouldn’t be. In the 90's if you see a guy who looks like Fred you kinda assume he's Prepy Chad who gets all the women. The sterotype has now evolved into a sexist womanizer who is rich and entitled while being a cis white male. The original Fred character is only really seen now in kids shows because nice guys stop existing when they hit puberty I guess.

The show legitimately feels like Mindy Kaling wanted to create her own animated series featuring herself as the main character, got turned down by several studios, and then tried to spin it as a Scooby Doo reboot with Warner Bros. Being corporate garbage, they thought "Well, reboots are easy ways to grab viewers who are nostalgic for shows they watched as kids. Let's give her the IP, we'll surely make some money this way!" Only for Mindy to then take the IP and just spin it to just be her own TV show. As far as I'm concerned, none of this is indicative of anything Scooby Doo related besides names and basic likenesses. And you can do progressive reboots. There's a *reason* people actually like Harley Quinn (the series)! It tackles the source media with the understanding of who these characters are, and how they've been portrayed over these last decades- they don't act out of character. The writers instead tackled the characters from different angles, leading to a fresh but believable new take on them. You know, the basic premise for rebooting or writing a new spinoff of existing characters. Even in newer stuff: while Velma is usually depicted as a little sarcastic and cynical, she is still good friends with the cast. She isn't downright rude to them. Daphne isn't just the stereotypical queen bee, Fred is not the overly masculine jock, Shaggy isn't just a haha funny stoner. And why in the hell would you leave Scooby out? Oh right, because he can't be twisted into a joke of himself, since the whole joke with Scooby is that he's just a talking dog.

It’s like that remake of “Heathers” that changed all of the bullies into minorities. I have experienced people hiding behind marginalized identities to bully people, when I was in high school and still easily given good or bad impressions of entire groups of people based on how people I met treated each other, and I still saw the problem with rewriting the bullies, and only the bullies, as transgender, obese, racially mixed, and everything but heterosexual.

I'd love to imagine that in the final episode of this trainwreck, Mindy-Velma would strut down to the school basement and we see the real (and good) Mystery Inc. gang all chained up while Mindy-Velma cackles with Scrappy Doo on her side, smirking on his highchair.

I knew this show was going to be awful when I saw the character redesigns. I really wish Diversity in films/shows wasnt almost always a sign that the people in charge didnt really give a shit about anything. At this point Boardroom executives and Creators only really do it as a way to create a safety net against criticism by just completely undermining anyone that dislikes the product as being a bigot. I want to live in a world where diversity in cast can be an organic thing that can elevate characters because the actor has passion for the project, not a world where it’s used as a weapon against intellectual discussion to the point where it’s immediately a red flag for most modern adaptations of classic series.

The animation style seems the same as Venture Brothers. I didn't check, but it may even be the same animators as for Venture Brothers. And while Venture Brothers is a very loose parody of Johnny Quest (which I loved as a kid), it stands far enough away from Johnny Quest as to be recognizable as a parody without being directly comparable. You don't get the feeling watching Venture Brothers that the creators despised the original IP or the people who enjoyed it, as appears to be the case with Velma. Also, the writing of Venture Brothers is vastly superior.
