That may be so, but I will say that in Patchogue there is not much room to be going fast. Plus having the steerable rear axles in that area is a lifesaver. I am two districts to the north of them and grew up in that area, so I know just how tight that area is. Look up the intersection of South Ocean Ave and Montauk Hwy in Patchogue and you'll see what I mean.

Nice truck you have. The only problem I see with it is the super single rear tires. If you get a flat your dead in the street. With dual tires you can limp to the call. The other problem with the super's is snow. They are like putting skates on it. The narrow tire of a dual tire set up allows the tread a better chance of grabbing the road surface.
@rvvirt5 жыл бұрын
Your correct I like the super singles but in snow they do suck and I'm speaking from experience and I didn't even think of the limping to a fire scene on one tire that's a good point
@lhr17015 жыл бұрын
I think that chains should help them in the snow for one . And the fact that the rears can steer is a major plus . So if they have to replace the tires a little sooner is well worth the price . Yes I know you can get a flat at any time but todays tires are much better than years ago . So I see why they decided to go the way that they did.

@@DIYtryer I firmly believe dual wheels grip the road better than one big fat tire. Those wide tires don't let the water get out from under them fast enough. They tend to want to ride on top of rain and snow like driving on ice.

Don't like that low drawer storage behind the rear axle. It will be the first to be damaged. When you climb a kerb there is nothing, ground clearance wise to stop you climbing but as you drop off the drawer gets crushed. We had an appliance where the bodywork was lower between the front and rear axles the in front and behind them and it was always getting damaged when having to climb kerbs on obstructed corners. It was a mistake the coachbuilder only made once. At least yours can be removed as it seems to be a bolt-on afterthought.

The size of the town isn't the only consideration, commercial buildings play a huge factor. You can have a town of 5000, but with a major company complex. A Dept has to support what the needs are...if the tallest building is 3 stories, no need for a ladder truck, even if the town has 50K.

Super Singles running on snow and ice covered roads will be a problem. The vehicle wants to float and slide more uncontrollably than it would with duals. If the tire deflates rapidly the wheel is usually destroyed as it runs without a inflated tire. Any fuel savings is negligible. You are running a deformed brick through the air. There, the fuel mileage lower.
