As good as the music was in this, and it is spectacular, it's the casting that made it! Jonathan and Ewan were EXCEPTIONAL!

Jonathan Rhys Meyer IS the singer on this cover but VIF are the band playing. I have the soundtrack, it stands clearly that JRM is singing this one. You can also hear it if used to his voice.

the idea in velvet goldmine was that the music was supposed to be a "pastiche" of glam rock. it wasn't supposed to be "authentic." just the opposite. it was more like a camp parody of what was ALREADY camp..............

Actually, Bowie did become a "good" singer. China Girl? Blue Jean? I honestly preferred his work when he was off-key a little bit, say "Ziggy Stardust" era. Must be the punk left in me. He's outrageously talented. I saw him once, his "Serious Moonlight" tour. My girlfriend pretty much dragged me kicking and screaming all the while telling me that I wouldn't fuck this up for her . . . and I was floored.

This guy dosen't have enough of the characteristic style inherent in Eno's voice to sing this. He sounds more like a young boy going through puberty. Okay, I'll stop with the criticism now.

For one thing he's making a sexual/sucking gesture on another man's penis so that throws "sweet kid" out the window. The singing on this dosen't carry any of the characteristic "smooth or cinical weirdness inherent with either Eno, Bowie, or Ferry for that matter. It sounds "flat". I would like also to correct a former entry about Bowie refusing to allow any of music to be played - it's because he's doing his movie version of Ziggy Stardust and not because he finds the movie repulsive. - I do.

@malissasweety the term is LOOSELY. and it sucked. There was a reason why Bowie wanted nothing to do with it

It's was because it made him look bad...and it didn't suck...it was fabulous.
@bootheavy16 жыл бұрын
Boy this sucks compared to the original. What is the aim here? This resembles more New York Dolls' exchibitionism rather than Brian Eno's mere attempt at experimenting with new sounds and concepts. This is probably why David Bowie refused to have any of his music actually put into the film. Adrogeny was a concept explored as an ideal in Glam but they're using it here as the central focus.

That’s why it’s called a remake, it’s not supposed to sound like the original
