Fun fact:The people involved in the capture of kurakhove and uspenivka salient were mostly dpr forces(former ukranians).They suffered some casualities when they captured "dalnie",because they refused to fire artillery at the village as there were many civilians in there too waiting for them. A rear guard is to allow time for fortifications to be set up in new defensive lines, or for others to evacuate. Look into the battle of France and you'll see the number of British that were left behind to do this in the leadup to us fleeing across the channel

Soon the Kursk cauldron may be closed and Ukraine has lost the territory. Not to understand why Ukranians do not leave in time as it was everywhere a mistake not to go. the Russians have more combat experience now and would maybe have an advantage over the EU-NATO on the short term. But on the long perspective the EU has a larger economy and population, so it would have an advantage here with more time passing by. But still it would take time to switch to war economy in Europe, and then there is also the factor of nuclear weapons ...
