This is a comparison of the Maxon SD-9 Sonic Distortion with 2 other pedals designed after it: The Vemuram Landau Butter Machine and the Way Huge Geisha Drive Smalls. Using a Fender Stratocaster SSS and a Gibson Les Paul HH with different settings into a Fender type clean amp. Also stacking the pedals with a transparent over drive (JHS Morning Glory).

Les Paul American Standard Reissue with Seth Lover pickups into a Custom Audio Electronics amplifier clean channel - Suhr Reactive Load - Two Notes Torpedo CAB - Universal Audio Apollo Quad, using Presonus Studio One 4.5 software for audio recording.

I thought the Vemuram would take it but I actually like the Geisha Drive most.

@@imarobotrocker me too! The “feel” of the Vemuram is “expensive”, but the Geisha wins all around for me. There is also a smoothness on the original sd9 that hasn’t been replicated in the other 2. to my ears.

@@ElmerFerrer word. A friend and I went to check out a Divided by 13 combo amp and it “felt expensive”but neither of us could get a usable sound out of it. We promptly went to L&M and tried a Marshall SV20, and it was immediate rock ‘n’ roll.

Any particular reason you changed the trimmer settings from stock for this comparison? Did you roll them all the way down as in least amount of sparkle and low mids?

I didn’t touch them. A friend lent me that one. I don’t own it.He didn’t touch them neither, so they are like the stock setting. I should maybe clarify that better in the description. If that setting is not the minimum then that pedal is even more scooped than I thought. Thanks for the comment!

@@ElmerFerrer No problem. I own one and mine doesn't sound that scooped but that is the nature of the SD-9. The Butter Machine to me is more open with less compression and to really get the most of out it, using an amp with some edge of breakup, not totally clean.
