We should have an updated version of this tier list, since the Sword (Claymore), Baton, and Dual Sai were added much later after this video came out. Also, because of a couple of features like new weapon perks from the updated weapon progression system, some of the weapons that were featured on this list could be placed in a different tier. (Except for the Machete, unless they update it to have a Perk of its own.) The Sword would most certainly be in either the A, or S Tier because of its perk that lets you get your health back from taking out an infected teammate. Same could be said for that Baton, being able to stun zombies that are surrounding you or your teammates with the melee weapon is quite effective, especially if you do not have a slasher on your team, or if your slasher ran out of stun guns. And if in the hands of a Vanguard, it will get chaotic. The Dual Sai would probably be in the B Tier. Although it has a perk similar to the Sledgehammer, being able to become immune to the Infection Mechanic (A.K.A) the Infectors spit for 3 seconds is really helpful when you have virus samples. Plus, unlike the sledgehammer where you had to kill a special zombie to get that immunity, you only have to kill 5 zombies in rapid succession, which obviously includes both common and/or special zombies, so it could work well if you are playing in Daily and Weekly Challenges, and you get that mutator (Cannon Fodder) where no Special Zombies show up.

@@ZeroTrigunKun fixer class can use many weapons if you're using ammo crates. Sniper Rifle with +1 penetration perk, 1000coin bullpup auto or LMG with the ammo crates are also great. Use the ammo crates to reload instead of normal reload.

i know this is a melee tier video, but i just discovered something... if you play in first person, when you fall from a high ledge, your character does NOT roll when they land, it allows you to shoot much sooner compared to being in third person.

Meanwhile, me: Using wakizashi, because I worked hard to get it, playing Extreme with total randos. That and the fact its perks after melee overhaul saved my skin too many times to count already. Additional targets are great, but Noble Death alone makes it worth using it, since when you get down, whatever put you down is dead, making it far easier for your team to pick you up. My favourite moment is when a Creeper jumps me, gets me down to zero HP, gets killed with Noble Death... and I get up due to class ability, so not even needing any pick-up. Really damn handy. And yeah, it can kill a Bull, too, at least up to Hard (didn't test it on Insane nor Extreme). Also, a silly question: How do you unlock wakizashi those days? The way you worded it seems like something was changed, but quick google search just sends me to the old guides about doing Extreme to get wakizashi. PS Wakizashi is about half the size of a katana. It's pretty much a "companion backup short sword", rather than an actual weapon. We are talking 30-50 cm vs 60-90 cm (1-almost 2 feet vs. 2-3 feet in case you're a Yank). There are finer details that further distinguish it, but the fact it's way shorter is the most distinctive feature. In European context that would be your parrying dagger (even if wakizashi was used for completely different things), rather than a sword for, well, swordplay.

The Machete I think should get a buff. Yes it's the starting weapon but after the update you have other choices now and you don't even have to unlock them, even without dlc/aftermath. The perfect perk would be gives 2 extra melee attacks.

I think the Wakizashi's Shinobi perk should be changed to give a temporary masking effect to the player.

I still remember when I first played WWZ, I picked the hammer (it's more like a halligan tool actually) as my melee because all the character skins have realistic gears, and I thought carrying a halligan tool in a zombie apocalypse would be very practical. Now in Aftermath, the perk of the hammer is so good, I just keep using it. Guess the devs know how important a halligan tool is lol

The plain jade fire axe works well with the slasher class Mix with the fixer n their masking gas helps a lot when stuck in tight rooms The med kit drops with the signature strike n it’s helped on the weekly challenges when there’s no med supplies or when playing on insane n there’s less supplies

I have used all the melee weapons and the sledgehammer is my most favorite.felt the most safe using it with the vanguard class. It saved me a few times from the infector when there was a tone of zombies around and I couldn't stop to cleanse myself. The push back is so nice too. I'm surprised u didn't put it in S tier. The sledgehammer does 100% with signature strikes, while the hammer only does 50% damage with the same push back affect

I should move it to A tier and put heavy fireaxe to B. Signature strike can only happen once and fatigued with sledge versus normal hammer can do it twice.

@@Venatix true. With the vanguard class, I would just pull out my shield when I'm exhausted anyway, so the sledgehammer was the better choice for me.

I love the idea of lifesteal in this game, but the sickles are so weak, it rarely seems to even trigger the heal. But if they had a tank lifesteal class that would be so much fun 😮

Oh, and regarding restoring defenses with Hammer: It's borked. Tested it extensively in Horde mode. In the very first wave, I've put one electric grid on the bottom of the LEFT ramp and another behind me, so no zeds could run from the inside of the building on my back. Then I deliberately let them fry on both grids, to deplete them almost to nothing (grids are the only defense that has a clear indicator how long until they break). Then I've Slashed my way with the Hammer through half the horde, standing right next to the bottom grid and protecting it so not a single zed landed on it. End result? The top grid got MINIMAL restoration (bordering on observation error), while the bottom grid, right next to me, wasn't restored at all. Repeated similar tests in Horde mode few times, always with very poor results and generally being just lackluster. In regular levels, the waves last for too short to get any actual use out of it (unless you play with incompetent people that ignore zeds on grids and fences)

I love playing wwz using the mutator settings.disabling special zombies and increasing regular zombies with enabling elite squad.walking dead style.if you try this on hard without bots.very challanging.ammo can decrease as the zombies takes more damage.very fun

1.Baseball Bat=push back and sprint stamina restore. 2.Tomahawk=Armor 3.Dual Sickels= Small Health regeneration. I use them on the fence zombies. Overall the bat wins with me being able to sprint all the time is nice. Tomahawk is a close 2nd followed by dual sickels I guess lol. That pocket knife needs to be next to the machete 🤣

Sledge Hammer is clearly S tier… clears infectious spit, impervious to Gas, if you kill bomber with melee you take no damage upon explosion but it’s buggy so not 100% effective

the hammer gives you immunity to the effect, if you're immune it removes the effect... its pretty great for infectors in particular because you dont have to take time and disinfect...

yeah I keep reading it as "I am now immune to future stuff" not "make me immune to what's already on me"

@@Venatix yea.... its instant immunity to all with further immunity for 3 seconds... its pretty good as a utility, jst like the little hammer... as a WEAPON its outclassed but as a tool it can save your bacon not needing those precious seconds to get the yuk off... it also protects you from gasbag gas

I will say melee is only useful in campaign mode. In horde mode, it's pretty useless... I know what you're going to say. Instead, when reload it's always better just to walk back slowly away from electric grid, then resume your head shooting once reloaded. Also, always aim at head level when you spray lead. Noobs doesn't know about this, but this is how you kill 3000+ zekes with 500+ headshots.

Have you any idea which one has the quickest first hit? I’m using a first melee hit to cancel my reload animation every time, so it would be interesting to know. Reloading your weapon and shooting zekes is always more efficient than melee attacks in my opinion. Especially in horde mode. :)

What does Signature Strike mean?

When you press the melee button a bunch of times in a row, one of your melee attacks is specially animated (typically in red) and usually gives you a bonus if you manage to hit a zombie with it.
