If some of the competitors at the back of the fleet are already in the new year, ahead of Boris, does that make them in the lead of the race?😀😉

The boat is either on a Starboard or Port TACK....A GYBE is a downwind MANEAUVER where the wind passes behind the stern. Terminology is important.
@Sail-World2 күн бұрын
A tack is also manoeuvre and it is common parlance to refer to a boat being on a certain gybe when sailing downwind, as opposed to being on a certain tack upwind. Context is important.
@petertaylor89222 күн бұрын
@Sail-World I agree a 'tack' is a monoever...bow passes through the eye of the wind. The 'Col. Regs' states two sail boats on a collision course, 'Port tack gives way to Starboard tack' (referencing the side of the boat the wind is coming over). I don't care about 'common parlance' .... Gybe is as I described.

@@Sail-World So according to you it's "common parlance" to call the bow the pointy end....or the Head the Loo. Landlubber speak.

Do folks think Charlie and Yoann simply have slightly faster boats, sail slightly better or got lucky?

Shouldn't be whistling unless you want high winds.
@suebrown52472 күн бұрын
It's unlucky to whistle at sea unless you want the wind.
@Sail-World2 күн бұрын
Sorry, I completely disagree with that. My dad whistled the entire time, with no ill luck whatsoever!
