Yes but the difference is that 43% of Venezuela and the majority of their government is descended from the European colonizers. Meanwhile the people of Essequibo are natives, the descendants of slaves and indentured servants who want to remain Guyanese. The British never settled in Guyana, it’s the reason why Essequibo is still 90% jungle outside of the small coastal plantation towns. The indigenous peoples still have their interior lands in Guyana, if Venezuela really had valid claim over Essequibo then those lands would’ve been settled by the Spanish a long time ago.
