I liked the film more than you guys but do agree with some of your criticism. My biggest issue was Quentin's confession at the end, he admits everything for the dumbest reason. He is risking prison and ruining his life for what? They could have solved this by simply having Ben discover the truth on his own and confront Quentin with it. He spilled the beans a little easy for my taste all while being recorded no less.

I agree with Joseph about where it should have ended. Those last 20 minutes didn't really add up or make much sense when thinking about characters. But I did enjoy it overall.

Liked the comments both of you made on the core of what this story was based on. Characters opening up to engage in unpredictable ways? The twist is perhaps this small-town/rural family with a real baddie, needed an outsider to get "Vengeance?":D

This movie stayed with me a lot longer than I expected it would. Kutcher's moving monologue about a recorded voice keeps someone alive even after they've died, is simply crass rationalization for his actions. How casually the girl who OD's is dragged out of the tent, and no one bats at eye. The "after party." Somehow it really got under my skin.

Absolutely agree with this entire review. Also got a good laugh from your BJ comments 💀 he looks like a cross between Woody Allen and Dustin Hoffman to me but without Dustin’s charm. Wish he had cast someone less irritating but I feel like his character was supposed to be utterly unlikeable. The whole movie felt like an unserious attempt to make a Noah Baumbach film. I wish it had less contempt for its own characters and maybe took out some of the “jokes” and condescending platitudes.

In defense of the whataburger question... No 1 in TX can really articulate why they like whataburger. It's no different than any other fast food restaurant here in TX. I mean they have some good sauces but that's it. Great review 🖤 I'm going to check this 1 out

That was back when my wife and I still watched Top Model. We were really pulling for Tipton to win it all. Too bad she didn't. Further fun fact: she had a cameo appearance on the Big Bang Theory when Howard used satellite tech to identify the Top Model house then snuck in to meet the models.

It's amusing that BJ played basically the same character in The Office just turned way down. This premise has been done before but never gets old to me for example Cannibal Holocaust or Texas Chainsaw where we underestimate the seemingly foreign or dimwitted opponents. It seems like a fun nighttime watch, thanks guys. (Joseph you might eventually have to watch Schindler's List. It's rough but Ben Kingsley is astounding.)

No one can tell you why they like In N Out, Shake Shack, White Castle, etc, either. That’s how regional fast food work, it’s familiarity with comfort food. That’s how your local sports teams work. No one can back their passion with anything rational. That’s not a weakness of the writing, if anything it’s to humanize these Texans are like the rest of us. They like local stuff and can’t tell you why.

Nice review. I saw this film last night and really enjoyed it. I'm not an Ashton Kutcher fan but I really liked his character in this movie. This movie definitely had alot of messages in it. I actually thought the ending was good and somewhat ironic especially the fact that Ben ends up using a gun when he actually appears to have a disdain for guns throughout the film. I'd give this film a 4 out of 5.

I saw this today, liked it, and agree with Joseph to give it a 3. Whataburger is a “thang” in TX. Also, the Holy Trinity in West Texas is God, Trump, and Texas Tech-home of the Red Raiders. Ashton Kutcher was brilliant, and although I knew he was going to be shot, I got so enthralled with the last scenes jumped when Ben shot him. I believe there were a lot of family interaction scenes edited out. Thanks again for your videos! Oh, and my Southern mama often said, “Bless your heart”, to people or things they did she didn’t like 😁

Agreed. I was enjoying the film. Kutcher stole every scene he was in. And the ending really crashed the movie for me. Felt so out of place. Also doesn't make sense why the brother suddenly liked BJ again. There was an excellent movie in the script somewhere. It just needed someone to comb through it after BJ finished it.

I still struggle to understand why BJ Novak is seen as an appealing screen presence. I believe Lio changed their name last year when they came out as queer/nonbinary on their Instagram. I remember because they were one of my favorites on ANTM.

Tough one. So many things to like AND dislike! The film presents interesting ideas but could have been executed better. I liked “Mason” and Kuchner’s character; I disliked the Mayer/party scene and the “Why Whataburger?” scene.

He's been watching videos of Abby every night. He's become what Kutchers character said. He knows that he's right and that he will get away with it. And he's so smug about it. So Ben just went a little Texas and solved it with a .45. Basically but that's why he shot him. He deleted everything bcuz he didn't want the family to become characters judged by the public. lol as soon as you said BJ Novak's character is a womanizer (who actually successfully gets lots of women too?!) I knew this movie ain't for me...I can't suspend my disbelief that much. Good writer but dude should probably stay behind the scenes. I felt the same way when he was on The Office. Loved your review tho; thank you for the joy!
