Too much money goes to the military industrial complex, elected officials, government parties, etc. It's not their money they are spending and the greed grows and grows. Money needs to go to the government & military but it needs to be spent wisely. Stop the targeting & surveillance projects (NSA, CIA, FBI, DHLS, etc.) of U.S. citizens - what a waste of money!!! Instead, use the money for needed things like homelessness, education, free college for everyone, infrastructure - bridges, roads, etc. Unfortunately, man is depraved and will not see the heinous and unimaginable things that it is doing to our fellow man until it happens to themselves.

These cities are expensive for a reason yet not everyone can make it. Everything is expensive like housing, food, groceries, transport, taxes. There is so many smaller cities and towns all over America where people can get cheap rent and basic jobs esp in growing small cities. Yet the homeless move to the most expensive cities. I doubt it is because there is more help because homeless in places like LA and San Fran have been homeless for decades. They could have had shelter and got out of homelessness in a small city quickly.

This was one of your best videos ever, Mark. You really are 'the preacher'. Atm. I'm so fortunate to be allowed to sleep on a couch, so I'm not outside sleeping rough, but man, I remember how it is to try and motivate yourself to keep going, to keep trying to put a smile on your face and stay positive every time it rains. You said it in the video, "Everything gets wet", and that is so true. Everything single item in your backpack is wet, you are freezing, are hungry and demotivated and there are nowhere to go and get dry, nowhere to go and get a hug. Every night, before I fall asleep I think of my son and hope he's happy and then I send a prayer out into the universe - Let's end homelessness worldwide or at least let's get all of the children and their parents away from the streets. Why do you think the taxes are so high? I live in California and our taxes go on taking care of the homeless and illegal immigrants! But you have homeless flooding in from other states and illegals coming in from other countries. Overcrowding is an issue! Tax money is going on free phones, luxury condos, hypodermic needles, etc. Meanwhile, teachers are going on strike because they haven't had a raise in 30 years, there's potholes all over. California is literally taking from the working class and even they can't afford to live here anymore.
@saybanana5 жыл бұрын
There are millions of empty homes and really cheap rents all over America's small towns and cities. Yet all the homeless move to the most expensive cities where there is so much competition for housing and jobs. People working 2 jobs just to pay rent only to eat ramen noodles at the end of the day. While they can work part time in a small town and make rent and own a car, eat a meal at a restaurant and have money in the bank. The issue is not every can make it in a big city but yet everyone is moving to a big city and making it more expensive. Pushing money towards ending homelessness in major expensive cities is a waste. Homeless should be moved to small cities and towns like the midwest or rustbelt where everything is more affordable from rent, to groceries to taxes and food. Every year cities will like 100 people but 200 more come to replace them. Never ending cycle of poverty that makes no sense.

I give some of my friends that are homeless many items, essentials like warm socks, coats, blankets, umbrellas, belts.. they always end up either losing them, throwing them, getting them stolen or like as in the video they get wet--so they just give them up. We are a lot colder than Venice up here on the north coast. Some nights it gets down to 31 degrees and below, and today we got pelted with rain, hail, thunder and lightening and wind gusts up to 40 mph. I'll be heading out in a few days to check on them. Stresses me to no end knowing that people are enduring this shit *(pardon my potty-mouth). I got there and ended up homeless on Venice/ Santa Monica beach. It was not easy living out there. I was stuck there for a few months and fortunately found my way back home. I miss the beach and some of the people I met sometimes but I learned a lot and I’m happy to be home. Hugs to all those in need. I was almost homeless. If it wasn't for my sister taking me in when I became disabled, I would have been homeless. It's a long story. I had a great career, money in the bank, a convertible car, and then I became disabled. Never did I ever think that this would have happened to me. I planned on growing old gracefully, in great shape, being active, enjoying the work/career. etc... but the story took a different turn. My ability to work is gone, money gone, people here in Orange County, CA treat you different when they find out you are disabled and no money. Our society looks down on those who have little to nothing even though they had a history of thriving independence. But keep in mind, it could happen to anyone, even yourself. It happened to me and I never in a million years thought that it would.

...the camera can't convey the anxiety one feels knowing another night outside looms ...you watch as office & shop workers head home and you "prepare" for another night alone, scared and wondering if you'll wake up the next day.

I was out there Christmas night 2019 I woke up after falling on my head to a little gift bag with a blanket gloves and beanie that warmed my soaked body and practically saved me from getting too cold. My adventures included +50 mile hikes everyday. I have pictures of how bad my feet were ...from santa Monica to Venice to marina del Ray back to to McDonald's that's like half a mile or so from Venice Beach maybe more. I walked through compton and skid row my first night with no issues. It's locals that make you feel so bad you have to keep walking or be treated like a stray diseased animal

I can freely give the shirt off my back to those in need, that is compassion. Having the shirt ripped off my back thru taxation is an act of aggression. They is not compassion in collective agency. You lose the interpersonal communion when agencies hand out benefits. With the distance of indifference keeps you "safe" from getting your hands soiled by those in need, you can justify the act of stealing the labor and production of others.

I have been worried about this as well as the homeless in the areas where the temperature is literally freezing and below. Thank you for being out there and making a difference. The homeless population is not forgotten!!

I was homeless after my family stole my wealth and harmed my skull. It was terrible until I made it to east coast to get some mental health help to cope with all the loss.

Every time I run into one of your vids all i can do is rofl not to bawl my eyes out. It is you who are the problem because you stand in the way of me reaching the people and you enable the beggar mindset where people will do anything but work together. Simple solutions have always existed for our problems and "the people" are the only ones to blame for our reality Best part, you can build an empire off me, but you not only lack the vision but the integrity and ability to actually perform functionality

We visited Los Angeles and Venice beach a week ago and the whole tripp was a huge eye opener. So many homeless people and local people have no symoathy towards them. Here in finland we dont have homeless people like that at all and the whole vacation was a huge shock to me and my mom. Crazy how normal its viewed and downupon over in LA.

it is important to say homelessness is not camping. we may think "of course we know it isn't camping" but a lot of people REACT as if it is: "go somewhere else" "get a job" "go away."

IP good job at finding Venice homeless people that are semi coherent🙄 I’ve lived in this neighborhood 30+ years, 90% of the homeless I’ve talk to have mental problems, drug & alcohol addiction or a combination of both. Until California’s state & city’s government addresses this problem the homeless crisis will never end! IP are you on mike bonin’s payroll pushing the affordable housing BS? Ask mike how many rent control houses and apartments he owns? He spent $10 million dollars on a temporary tent and 152 beds, how is his beach front homeless shelter going to solve homelessness? For your next KZbin video go film at Penmar golf course & Park on Rose Ave in Venice, CA this time interview some residents living across the from the ever growing homeless encampments, try showing both sides of this crisis.. Open your eyes and look at the big picture, there are numerous problems that need to be addressed and solved!

Americans spend $120 Billon on tobacco per year, $72 Billion on alcohol, $116 Billion on gambling, $100 Billion on drugs......what if they spend their money to help the poor people and end the homelessness

Listen, it's not American's "fault" if they spend money on cigs, alcohol, etc. In fact most who smoke, drink and gamble AREN'T RICH!!!!! It's mostly lower and middle class people who are NOT IN A FINANCIAL POSITION to help the homeless, who are the smokers, drinkers, gamblers, etc. Not sure about the drug takers, I think that can affect anyone regardless of income. Super rich people like Jeff Bezos, Marc Zuckerberg, and uber liberal super rich celebs are the ones who are in a much better position to help the homeless, dont' you think?

God bless you Mark for everything you are doing. My heart breaks for these people. Something has to change! My ex husband is homeless but at least he has a vehicle to sleep in. I have helped him many times financially, thousands of dollars but he still ends up back in his truck. These people don’t even have a vehicle, I feel for them. Sending prayers of change in our society to help the homeless.

I would have run into the pizza shop at 1:34 - 1:54, and then into Ben & Jerry's at 2:34 - 2:58 after filming that clip. At 9:22 - 10:09, when you passed the "Call of Duty: Black Ops" video game mural on the building behind you, it's as if even that building / mural was "calling US to the duty of" helping the homeless, at the same time YOU were asking us to pitch in, and that was a chance shot in the video clip. Thank you for this video, because it reminds us of the bad days that the homeless have to go through. EVERY day is a bad day for the homeless, but it's worse on rainy days, winter days, etc. It's easy to forget their struggles, and imagine it as "camping," which you mentioned in the video, when we see warm and sunny days on a beach. But, when we see the rainy days, the cold days, etc., we see the real struggle of homelessness. So, thank you for this video. We need the reminder.
