Lack of water actually produces a far greater threat than flooding in Venice due to the foundations of buildings (a lot of the time they’re still wood) being exposed to the air, making it rot and weaken and inevitably breaking.

Venice is tidal, rain has nothing to do with it. Its an island in a sea lagoon, not a river estuary.
@gabrielriley7569
@gabrielriley7569 Жыл бұрын
rain absolutely has an impact on Venice, tidal doesn't just equal sea water, the fact you have said lagoon, is by definition showing the presence of fresh water, which is supplied by rivers as it does sit between esturies of two rivers which i have forgotten the name of, aka a lack of precipitation factors into lower levels of water within the canals, rivers can be tidal, it doesn't just mean salt/ sea water though.

Now they’ll start to mop up some of those unexplained crimes, finding skeletons tied to hollow breeze blocks. Seriously though, I recall back in the 70s, the disastrous problem of rising water and foundations which were sinking, and the water levels rising above the Istrian stone foundations. I worked there as a young man, cleaning and restoring “Salt “ damage to some of the ancient buildings and sculpture. In more recent years, the problems have increased and Venice is in extreme danger. Now we see that there is a different situation, and hope that it isn’t a regular occurrence. Venice is built on wooden piles, which ought not to dry out, as they would then tend to rot.

@VlerkeDamne
@VlerkeDamne Жыл бұрын
A warming climate does not mean constant scorching temperatures everywhere. It means that on average temperatures (and sea level) will rise, but with a lot more extremes. Extreme warmth, can be followed by extreme colds, can be followed by extreme flooding, can be followed by extreme draught. Here we see more extreme tides, causing draughts and might cause extreme flooding afterwards.
