I’ve had a tiny leak coming from the shift shaft seal for about a year now always thought I had to pull the tranny out. I finally searched how to do it and it was super easy. Decided to make a quick vid in how I did it.

Contacted ATG about this. I applied Silicone Paste on the outside & inside of the Oil Seal after cleaning the Shaft and surrounding areas. They also recommend me to replace the round bushing on the Shift Shaft (2:54) because a lot of play when shifting. I hope your back is now well, Calavera Chronicles.

You only wanna apply silicone to the outside surface area of shift shaft seal. Never do the inside, the shift shaft rides on the inside of the seal and needs to move freely

Hmmm that’s a good question. I haven’t done an L3 but I feel like it should be. I would take off the old seal and take it in to compare with the new seal just to be 100% sure

WE just replaced this seal on my honda del sol and it's still leaking. We replaced it about 5 weeks ago and just replaced my right axle and axle seal. Which is sealed and clean. I thought were were done but it looks like the shift seal is still leaking. It's soaked, losing fluid fast. Any thoughts? Yes, Honda OEM from the Dealership.
@CalaveraChroniclesАй бұрын
@@MikeKollin is the deal form Honda? If not it wouldn’t hurt to try an oem Honda one
@MikeKollinАй бұрын
@@CalaveraChronicles Yes, it's OEM from Honda. I actually went in and ordered it from a Honda Dealership. Then later picked it up there.

@@CalaveraChronicles After we replaced the shift shaft transmission seal the fluid leaking was more than 60% Less. I also tightened up bolt on oil pan. This is about 6 weeks ago. For the first time oil levels are staying the same, for 6 weeks. Before I had to fill that up at least every 4 weeks about 1/2 a quart or close to it. So after we replaced shift seal and tightened up oil pan bolts the fluid leaking was a lot less, at least 60% less or more. Then we replace right axle and right axle seal and suddenly for the first time immediately the driver side axle seal is leaking. He showed it to me and it was just a tiny dribble. 1 line going down... Now over the last 7 days or so I checked and rechecked under my engine for leaks. and the driver side axle had zero leaks and both boots are perfect and dry. It's only 5 years old. I drive my car home thinking well I will replace the driver side axle / seal in a month or 2. Next morning I wake up and the leaking is just as bad as it was before we replaced the Axle and axle seal and the shift shaft seal. Except this time it's pouring out of the driver side (5 year axle). I just put it up on my buddies ramps last night and oil is flung all over the place... it's bizarre cuz even when we replaced the passenger side axle and seal about 7 days ago, even after he pointed it out, there was no oil flung about, no major leaking, the boots were dry. Now a few days later oil is all over the place on the driver side... I just think it's odd. How the very next day after we replace another seal which by the way is good. The new axle is completely dry... I think it's odd how all of a sudden the other axles seal is leaking like crazy. And it's dripping all the way down onto the shift shaft seal so i can't tell if it's the shift shaft seal at all... I'm going to replace the 5 year old axle and axle seal on the drivers side... which will at least get rid of that big leak. And then That will stop leaking from above. Then I will be able to see if it's the shift shaft seal. I hate to say it but it seems like Foul play is at hand because I had to walk to the O'Reilly's store to buy a 32 mm socket cuz he said he didn't have one. And then I had to go again and get some liquid wrench silicone spray... and suddenly the driver side axle is leaking like crazy. The next morning I had a new puddle of fluid on the ground that wasn't there before. Note: The shift shaft seal was done by one guy. The axle / seal was done by someone else, I didn't really know very well. I just bumped into him at the O'Reilly's store.. Is there any explanation as to why suddenly after replacing 2 seals the 5 year old seal would suddenly start leaking bad? When it had zero leaks before? In the last 6 months we / mechanic replaced timing belt, water pump, Crank shaft seal, Front Seal, Valve cover and spark plug seals and did the valve timing. We replaced the shift shaft seal, tighten up the oil pan bolts which were loose by the way. And we just put a new passenger side axle and axle seal in. Now we are on to do the right axle and right axle seal. Hopefully that finishes it! I'll replace the oil pan gasket in a few months since at least for right now the oil has not dropped a bit in 6 weeks.
@CalaveraChroniclesАй бұрын
@MikeKollin I had my axle do the same thing once with Autozone or any aftermarket axles. I ended up using oem c clips that are on the end on the axles that go into the tranny. That ended up working for me
@MikeKollinАй бұрын
@@CalaveraChronicles I don't think it was a C Clip. I mean the drivers side axle has never leaked for 5 years. Suddenly the very next day it's leaking after we replaced the other side's axle and seal? By the way the Shop that replaced my axle 5 years ago is a top notch shop. They are all chinese and work solely on Honda's and toyota's. They specialize in Japanese type cars. It was only after we replaced the other axle and seal this one started to leak. I just think it's odd. The axle we replaced about a week ago is fine. Perfectly dry and clean. I just checked it again today about 2 hours ago. It's the axle we didn't touch that was dry before we replaced the other axle and seal that suddenly is leaking. I mean it had a total blow out. Just bizarre. #1 It never leaked before. #2 It's only 5 years old. #3 I had checked it at least 7 times in the last 6+ weeks due to trying to figure out where the leaks were coming from to replacing shift shaft seal, then right passenger axle. The Drivers side has always been perfect, dry and clean... Who knows... I'm going to O'Reilly's now to buy a new Driver side axle and seal. Note: 6 months ago a mechanic at a shop replaced the Front Seal, Crank shaft seal, Valve Cover seals and spark plug seals along with timing belt and water pump. So all those seals are good. NO leaks, dry, etc. Again I just find it odd, but it's possible it was bad but couldnt' tell yet.

daniel marroquin yeah you can use other oil but just do the research and see what works best for you. I’m personally using amsoil because I have the mfactorY LSD and that’s what synchrotech advice me to use with it .

Yeah, it's super thin. I keep hearing the same thing from everyone rebuilding transmissions on hondas: DON'T USE GEAR OIL. Don't use anything too thick. If you're not going to use synchromesh then just use regular 30w engine oil. Obviously, use synchromesh if you can but 30w oil is what I keep hearing to use.

If you loose the pin. Get any metal rod (cut to length) and little smaller in diameter. Then apply high temp silicone on the metal rod (make sure the Shift Rod's Hole is clean) and insert. Last place back the large C-Clip and booth back on.
