Venkaiah Naidu Last Speech In Parliament As Vice President: 'I Was In Tears, Didn't Ask For This'

Outgoing Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday urged the Opposition parties to treat the ruling party as a rival and not as an enemy. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for giving him the opportunity to serve as the Vice President of India.
In his farewell speech in Rajya Sabha, Naidu said, "The day PM told me that I was being selected to become the Vice President of India, I was in tears, I didn't ask for it. Party had given the mandate, I obliged and resigned from the party. Tears were because I had to leave the party."
"I did my best to maintain... the House. I tried to accommodate and give opportunities to all sides - South, North, East, West, North-East. Each one of you has been given time," he added.
Naidu demits office on Wednesday and his successor Jagdeep Dhankhar will take the oath of office on August 11.

I first saw him as an young M.L.A from B.J.P with the then Collector, Nellore in 1983. Really inspiring to see that Mr Venkaiah Naidu is still pinning very high hopes on the parliamentary democracy in India in a situation when the rulers at State as well as Central level are trying their best to distort it to any extent in order stay in power. As an outsider I am thoroughly disappointed with the way the most responsible leaders at the helm are behaving to save themselves at the cost of the poor peoples survival. Our leaders oratory skills are often used to mesmerise the innocent and their favour.
