I actually think r1 is already enough. But I like to do solo content so r5 is the answer for me. You can consider the weapon that come with Polar Star banner. If you also want it, you can try to go for r5. Otherwise, you can just stop at r3.

What happened at the end there, your Venti was doing more damage than usual. Does the boss take increased damage or something?

I guess his DEF is lower in that phase. Similar to Raiden boss when she exits the puppet mode.
