Have you tried the Harley rake for this? I would think that would be the right tool to move and fill in the low spots.

I have used the power rake, but not for my driveway. That would work the best.

Nice job, I was wondering if you could back drag with out skags on if it might be smoother finish, thanks for the video 👍

Box blades work really well for this work also.

Look like it does a good job but I think for dirt you wanna take the skid shoes off they are making a line that's dug down on the sides. It looked like the whole time you were working against your self
@steiger256 Жыл бұрын
That is one thing back dragging is it sometimes leaves the lines. If the snone is deep enough they will fill in as you go, But where the stone is thin they will leave the grooves. Usually ones you drive on it a few times they fill right in. I have found in the past without the shoes youbwill not getva uniform level of gravel when you drag it.

Nice! You've made some good videos over time with the dozer blade moving snow, dirt, and this gravel. For this job I wondered if you'd left the cast iron skid shoes on, and then saw that you used them to limit the carving. If you'd omitted them and had the blade not in float would it have dug in or left more of a wavy result? Good operation skills. Thanks for sharing the usefulness of your equipment and the good result you created!

If you dont leave the skid shoes on then it is very hard to make it level. You are correct it would be like a waah board affect. Glad you enjoy the videos. The strait blade is one of my favorite attachments.

I would think you would want to wait until spring to put new stone on the driveway. How are you going to plow snow and not put all that loose stone in your yard?
@steiger2562 жыл бұрын
I used to think that also, But even if you put stone down in the spring it is still there in the winter. I wanted to top it early spring, But I had to wait until I finished my tileing project. There are many challenges to plowing a gravel driveway. I have found tricks through the years to ease the pain of raking gravel from the lawn. I always set the shoes to the highest setting on the first few plows. Once you get a good packed base snow down you can lower it down a bit. My driveway is 14 foot wide so I usually push the snow to the driveway markers only. This gives me a 8 foot drive path with 3 foot on each side for snow. This helps keep the gravel in the driveway instead of the lawn. If it is a wet snow and the gravel sticks when I plow it then ones we get a warm day I push it back into the driveway to help keep it from forming on the edges. Usually the only spot I have to rake in the spring is at the end of the drive near the road. When the plows stack up all of that wet snow the stone likes to stick and usually I have to push it back further into the yard to make room for more snow from the plow trucks. We get a lot of freeze and thaw here in Ohio. If I don't keep a good base of stone in the winter months then we get lots of pot holes that form. Last year was not a good year for my driveway. I should have had stone last year. Hopefully it will be better this year.
