*What is a Putamen?* The putamen is the outermost portion of the basal ganglia. These are a group of nuclei in the brain that are interconnected with the cerebral cortex, thalamus, and brainstem. Basal ganglia include the dorsal striatum, substantia nigra, nucleus accumbens, and the subthalamic nucleus. The putamen is involved in learning and motor control, including speech articulation, language functions, reward, cognitive functioning, and addiction

Thank you so much for this video- it’s definitely one of the best videos I’ve seen about CSF so far. Question: is CSF flow unidirectional or bidirectional in the spinal cavity? Once it flows downward from the 4th ventricle does it eventually flow back upwards OR is it resorbed within the [spinal] cavity such that the cavity is constantly supplied with “fresh” CSF.
@ezmed3 жыл бұрын
Great questions! The short answer is there is bidirectional flow of spinal CSF. While there are arachnoid granulations located along the dural sleeves of spinal nerve roots that allow for some CSF to drain from the spinal subarachnoid space into surrounding spinal veins, most CSF is reabsorbed intracranially from the subarachnoid space into the dural venous sinuses. CSF flow is primarily influenced by passive mechanisms such as pressure gradients, hydrostatic pressure, surrounding arterial pulsations, body position, etc., and the spinal CSF has the ability to work its way back up to the head. Hope this helps, and if there are still lingering questions ask away!
@DNew3 жыл бұрын
@@ezmed no that helps me out greatly. I appreciate you taking time to reply because I’ve tried researching this question specifically but wasn’t able to find information that spoke specifically to this aspect of CSF flow. THANK YOU!

@@ezmed Hi!! I had another question and you were great with clarifying things for me last year!!! LOL Composition wise - does CSF have any oil properties? I understand it’s a fluid and mostly water with various chemical substances, but is it in any way accurate to refer to it as being an oil or at the very least having some type of oil property?
