This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into the venturi meter and how it works. It's a device used to measure the velocity of a fluid in a tube. It works by changing the cross - sectional area of the pipe to cause an increase in fluid speed which leads to a reduction of pressure which can be visually measured due to the height difference in the two columns. This video explains how to derive the formula that can be used to calculate the fluid's velocity on the left side of the meter using bernoulli's equation. The flow speed in the throat can be calculated using the equation of continuity and the difference in water pressure can be calculated using the gauge pressure formula for fluids or using bernoulli's principle. This fluid mechanics video contains all the formulas and equations you need when dealing with physics problems involving the venturi effect.

For anyone having issues with this one, do this. Just watch it through once and write down everything a long with him. Then just attempt to derive that first equation by yourself without looking and only refer back to your notes if totally stuck. Then watch it again and talk along as if you are discussing it with him and look at your notes. Lastly, take a short break and then come back and watch it at double speed and comment along with it. You will be amazed at how much you have learned in the short time. The rest will be cake.

Could you tell me, is there a ratio for the most efficient venturi of how much you have flowing in to how much is added via the venturi? So if you have a constant flow rate and constant pressure in say of 10bar air passing through, how much in comparison could be drawn through?
@zc8778

Could you induce as much as say 1/2 the constant volume in through the venturi?

Good video. I'm confused why the p2 would be less than p1 though. The level of the liquid in the 2nd tube is lower so how come it hasn't got more pressure?
@ericgibson7889
@ericgibson7889 4 жыл бұрын
The pressure of a venturi meter is always lowest at the throat, where the flow speed is the greatest. The level of the liquid is lower because there is less pressure pushing it up.

That's really the only thing that I could pick on (not here to pick on this presentation) but rho should be written as a Greek rho character, not as a 'p' like he did.

If you did not cancel the rho*g*h terms and kept h1 and h2 , and eventually h = h2 - h1, it would be much easier to understand

I did extremely well in college algebra, but these are some intimidating equations and calculations. Yikes! I have not done any algebra in nearly a decade and a half. If I continue with my next college degree I will be required to take chemistry and I am so out of practice when it comes to solving algebraic equations.
