Love Chanda as a commentator. I am a HUGE fan of hers. I used to get just as excited for her matches as the WS. Classy and lovey soft-spoken player and woman! I remember one of her last matches against an in-form Vaidisova at the US Open, Chanda was making one last stand in her career after another knee surgery, Chanda fought hard, but lost 4-6,4-6. I remember being very sad after that match. Very underrated player, she had a FH kind of like Sania Mirza’s...great attacking and all-court player. I still remember she was the only player to beat a red-hot Serena in 2002 (Eastbourne) ON GRASS (or at all that year)!!!!

She doesn't get enough credit as a commentator. I wish ESPN would hire her more for the big matches. Super professional and always has great insights into what is happening in the match -- never going on and on about herself or the good old days or things off topic !

@@nicholo1 yes Chanda is truly a class act, I remember one time a non-tennis playing commentator slightly disrespected her asking if she felt like she was overmatched/intimidated when she played the Williams sisters (as a huge fan of Chanda, Serena, and Venus I knew Chanda had some fantastic thrilling match-ups with both sisters)...she politely said “when I step on the court I always believe in my chances.” I think most people would be like, I am one of the few to beat Serena in 2002

It was LA, not Eastbourne. She went on to win the whole tournament. With better draws, she definitely would’ve made US Open SFs that year.

9:53 Oprah, Gayle, Trump, Kim Kardashian 22:45 Anna Wintour, and Colton Haynes all showed up for this QF. Love when the Williams sisters play each other in a QF, SF, or Final - always interesting! You can see how much thicker Serena got later in the season compared to when she won the French Open earlier that same year in May. I wonder if she had kept her fitness level up would she have managed to win the 2015 USO and complete a Calendar GS win. Alas, it'll never happen now.

No, her fitness had nothing to do with it. Roberta Vinci was playing like she hit something and the rent was due. She was just running and swinging, unorthodox, scrappy confusing tennis. If you had seen that, like when she played Naomi in the final, Serena was like a deer in headlights. Roberta was pesky and irritating that day.

@@ATHAYES I said what I said. It’s called junk tennis. A known strategy that relies on rhythm disruption for those with no real weapons. Not especially impressive for those in the know. Serena’s faced that sort of play before, but being heavier & drained from that QF with Venus meant she wasn’t as sharp as needed to deal with upending a pact made by two Italians who wanted to reach the final together.

This US Open and the 2004 US Open are Serena's two biggest blown opportunities in slams.

I'd argue that it's the 2010 French Open. In the 2004 US Open, Serena was robbed of 3 crucial points by the umpires who did a piss poor job, but there's nothing she could have done about it. In the 2010 French Open however, she had a match point against Stosur in the QF and hit a passing shot that nearly missed the line. Had she made it, she would have had an injured Jankovic in the SF and Schiavone in the F.

It's for the best. Serena winning the Calendar Grand Slam wouldn't have been right because she is not as talented as Steffi Graf who won her Calendar Slam by beating Navratilova and Evert, all time greats. Serena's competition in 2015 was abysmal and winning the Calendar Slam by beating Vinci and Pennetta would have been so cheap.

She was killing the clay court season Charleston, Madrid blue clay, I can't remember if she played Rome but she was on fire then throw in an inspired Razzano, home crowd, 1st round jitters and boom shock loss. Venus always fought hardest against Serena. I truly believe that if she didn’t have to play Venus, Serena would’ve completed the Grand Slam in 2015. Ran out of gas against Vinci because she battled Venus for so long.

I’ll never forget an interview with Wimbledon pre final ticket holders, saying back then 2002 . They hoped it wouldn’t be the William sisters because it wouldn’t be as good ? But after long time watching Venus and Serena Williams matchs, I think that When the two sisters are confronted, Venus Williams strategy is to oppose Serena Williams too much difficulties in order to prepare her young sister to improove her game and to increase up and up. So, for me Venus Williams is like a coach player for Serena. Venus Williams loves deeply Serena Williams. I appreciate this exceptional relation between these two sisters.
